Actually, no.

I do partake occasionally with MOHD who has a medical card for PTSD and pain. He wanted to get off all of the opiods and what not alot of doctors were giving him. The VA assigned him a doctor that was all for the getting off the opiods. MOHD asked him if marijuana would help. The doc said since he was technically a federal employee he could not say yes or advise it but.....he was welcome to try it on "his own"
It's helped him tremendously. He's off the opiods and no more nightmares. I, on occasion, smoke with him because he occasionally just want to have a hit or two with me. About like, Hey, let's go have a beer.

It's fun but it makes my tremors worse so I don't very often partake.

Yes, this drug, like alcohol, is now becoming widely accepted. If you want to call it pain medication, good for you, but there are many approved medications that can take care of physical pain without altering your state of mind. If getting stoned helps people with anxiety, that's good, although the same thing can be said about medications that have been approved for that without making someone mentally impaired, which may be an important factor for someone going through PTSD. I've read it can make you very paranoid... Your friend may like getting stoned, but is it really the best way for him to deal with life? In a constantly altered state of mind?? And what about the addiction aspects of it? It has been called a gateway drug (a drug which leads to the use of other more lethal drugs.)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved one cannabis-derived drug product: Epidiolex (cannabidiol), and three synthetic cannabis-related drug products: Marinol (dronabinol), Syndros (dronabinol), and Cesamet (nabilone). All other forms of medical cannabis are not approved by the FDA.1 For most medical conditions, more study of medical cannabis is needed to understand its proper role in comprehensive medical care. Use of medical cannabis products may or may not relieve your symptoms. Existing studies of medical cannabis suggest symptom relief can vary from patient to patient. Side effects are common. Some of the most common side effects are dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, light-headedness, drowsiness, and nausea. Side effects are usually mild or moderate and usually stop quickly, but sometimes severe side effects occur. Talk to a pharmacist at a Medical Cannabis Dispensary if side effects appear.

That's the point. He wants OFF the pills. This helps him. He also uses it medically. He's not trying to "alter reality." It helps him among ALOT of vets.

He's the one it helps with pain. He's had chronic pain in his back for over 20 years. Me, I just take an aspirin but I know my pain will go away.

I prefer my anxiety meds in pill form. I also don't want to be stoned dealing with customers.

Don't think he's not tried everything short of surgery where there is a 50/50 chance he may not walk again. We've gone down alot of avenues believe you me and if pot helps him more than oxycotin and hydrocodone (sp?) etc. I'm all for it.

It works for someone with that many problems, I say go for it - if nothing else works. The problem is what it will do in the long term. From what I am reading, the longer you use it, the more problems you are likely to have. First of all, the more you use it, the longer it stayes in your body - around 45 days. Also, as you become more "used" to it, most people want to use more (like people who drink want to drink more drinks) to get high and stay high.

One of the things they have discovered is that after long term use, some people get what sounds like a fairly serious condition called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) - information here:
https://gi.org/topics/cannabinoid-hyperemesis-and-the-cyclic-vomiting-syndrome-in-adults/

Who wants to risk getting that?!!

It is also related to heart problems:

Thank you for the articles. They were very interesting. I've heard about that albeit very little. I shared them with MOHD to read at his leisure.

No thanks, I want all my brain cells. Never did it, never will.
My grandson’s doctor told him stay away from it. Today’s pot is much worse than the 60’s. Now they are lacing it with other dangerous drugs as well.
