Did I ever tell you about our one ÇA resident?

You know I am in a county so blue we have our own color on the blue spectrum. At any rate, spring summer and fall, you can find us out in the street chatting. If a neighbor is driving down the street, they stop and join in. Kids play in the street, front yards, wherever. We, also, keep a list of service people, physicians, etc. that we have found to be good.

The Californians moved into a house in the middle of the block. They would wave, yet not one single time did they ever interact. One of the neighbors went over with a homemade dessert and to provide the helpful list. She was told they do not accept food from strangers and would seek their own help as needed.

Next up was the day kids were playing kickball, neighbors were out chatting. He drove up, parked, got out and asked why this neighborhood was so noisy and why children were not better managed.

Thankful, they moved in nine months. We have a lovely couple from Wisconsin. They are delighted neighbors do not mind if their little ones end up in someone’s yard seeking a lost ball, etc. and join in our street chats.

That reminds me of my elder. She encourages little ones to use her big front yard. She enjoys watching them play and laugh. We keep sidewalk chalk for them. Occasionally, a mom will come sit and chat with her.

You know how they hate it when people challenge their narrative. Most of them are indeed very frightened people. That's why so much of the Republican narrative is based on fear-mongering, it's what they respond to. So immigrants are all murders and rapists and Keri Lake is telling us we need guns to defend ourselves from scary bad people. Notice how often they make references to military vets. That's a mental security blanket for them. They think all vets are on their side and that they can actually tap into the power of the military.

The problem with that is that vets don't have access to the intelligence systems, air superiority and multi-billion dollar budgets that sets the U.S. military apart. Without all that, vets armed with rifles are only as effective as the garden variety terrorist. In fact, between a Syrian terrorist and an American vet, I would bet on the Syrian simply because they don't get the chance to get soft.

It's a shame these OPP conservatives get so wound up by all this fear and delusion because at the bottom line, you're right... I "do" have the same tradition that many of them purport to have.
