Let me ask you a question. What gun law would stop a mass shooter that was planning on going to one of the schools and kill a bunch of our kids? Can you name one? I don't think anybody else can. What if someone pointed a gun at you, what would you use to defend yourself? The only defense against a gun is another gun. You want to take the guns from law abiding citizens so the gunman doesn't have to worry whether his victim can defend themselves, or not. Most mass murders take place in gun free zones, because he knows the only defense against a gun is another gun. You need to forget about your politics and use some plain old common sense about this.

The phrase "well-regulated" was in common use long before 1789, and remained so for a century thereafter. It referred to the property of something being in proper working order. Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected. Establishing government oversight of the people's arms was not only not the intent in using the phrase in the 2nd amendment, it was precisely to render the government powerless to do so that the founders wrote it.
This is what I call a Well Regulated Militia.
