Why is Congress FUNDING a DHS that is MASS RELEASING illegal aliens into our communities?

Appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are included among the mix of remaining spending bills. Those negotiations reportedly derailed over the weekend amid talks of a potential year-long continuing resolution.

“Republicans want to underfund DHS, which makes the border less secure and the country less safe,” a White House official told Politico on Sunday, asserting that Republicans were trying to “sow chaos on the border ahead of November.”

But Republicans purportedly pushed back on those claims, holding that the issue was not the amount of funds requested but how they would be used.

“Congress: we are FUNDING a DHS that is MASS RELEASING illegal aliens into our communities, some of whom commit horrific crimes,” wrote Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the staunchly conservative House Freedom Caucus, in an X post.

“Republicans MUST NOT vote to keep funding Mayorkas’ DHS at the same level with zero policy changes next week. We have the power to stop this,” he added.

Thanks to the GOP’s razor-thin majority in the House, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was forced to ally with Democrats to pass the first appropriations minibus on March 6. A similar partnership may well be in the cards for the second.

MY COMMENT: With Republicans like speaker Mike Johnson and the other RINO's, who needs Democrats? If you refuse to use the "power of the purse" and continue funding the government that creates the problem in the first place, you are an ENABLER, and part of the problem! You don't compromise on principles!

It is an election year. Johnson’s just being pragmatic. Let’s say the Republicans don’t fund the DHS and we get hit with a terrorist attack. Now you and I know what the press and Democrats will say. If the republicans had funded DHS we would have stopped the attack. B.S. but many would believe it. I don’t like it, but I understand it.

I understand that viewpoint. However, there are 12 individual appropriation bills. They should be crafted, debated, and voted upon individually. If Mayorkas, Wray, Garland, or any of the other cast of characters in the Biden administration put forward policies, agendas, that are contrary to the constitution, defund and line item out selected budget items.

As Einstein would say, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." That is exactly what is going on in Congress, and this country is paying the price.

I don’t disagree. Just not sure how involved the American electorate is in how government works. (Oxymoron)

I think you hit the nail on the head. Democracy works with a well informed and engaged public. They do not appear to be engaged or informed on the foolishness going on in Congress. Nor, do they seem to care much about the future of their children who will need to service the $34 Trillion national debt, which is growing at $2 billion each year.

The GOP have a weapon called the Holman Rule that could be used to cut the salary of Mayorkas.

We're also funding the UN NGO's that are bringing the illegals into our country and supporting them. At a minimum we should defund them.

I had heard of this tactic, but didn't fully understand how it functions. Thanks for posting.

At the present time, I am afraid that the Republicans are two fractured, and leadership to timid, to pull together to utilize this method to cut federal spending.

You're correct on both observations but I thought that it was worth mentioning.
