It's a good idea and is needed now more than ever before. I wonder if the coarse teaches that if you stay at home the government will provide for you.

A decade or more ago our county schools indirectly taught it in elementary school math. They had an entire segment with all math problems involving grocery shopping; budget, items to be bought, cost of each item, etc.

Frankly, they should have built on that. Next could have been a checking account.

Hopefully the teachers teaching the courses can actually add, subtract, etc,

Hope they teach the evils of credit card debt and going into hock for useless degrees without a backup plan.

I agree it is needed. I wish they had something like this back in the 70's instead of calculus..I need to know more about how to balance a checkbook and set up a budget than how to figure calc equations Just sayin

Budgets are a lot of fun. I don't need one but I use one and it helps track where my money goes.

I remember taking a personal finance class in H.S. that taught us how to write checks, balance our checkbooks and set up a budget. The new course that you describe would be very helpful to all students- especially the ones who believe that "money grows on trees".

You Sir are very fortunate to be so successful and prosperous. Many your age have not reached that stage of fiscal maturity even some my age have squandered much over a lifetime.

It's not my success. My father is rich but not super wealthy. A lot has to do with taking over his business.
