I hope we can all agree that these absurdly low minimum wages, not to mention the subminimums, are a scandal.

Sounds right to me. My Walmart store offers higher than Federal MW but lower than my State MW (by approx. $1 per hour lower than State MW)) as a starting wage.

What I pay in taxes is more than your total income, so you can say I have done a lot.

So you pay $150 thousand a year in taxes? RRIIGGHHTT!

Ok, so there are a FEW red states that are givers and a few blue ones (like HI and VA) that are takers.

But explain why so many of the southern states still go by the federal minimum wage instead of trying to help their people? For example... A hotel maid in NY makes at least $15/hour now, but in AL or MI (both "taker" states) only $7.25.

You state a single example and suggest that represents the US at large. Just like you put all MAGA's in the same boat. Do you think the cost of living is different in those places than NYC? In the days of yore, liberals stood up against stereotyped judgement of others. What happened to y'all?

Home Depot in the Hill Country area of Texas starts at $16.50. No one can live nicely on that. You had better increase your initiative, skills, experience and marketability if you want to do better. I've never met anyone who had their dreams fulfilled by sitting around moaning and waiting for the government to come help you.

Winky, some of your points have some validity, but this bit of snottiness "I've never met anyone who had their dreams fulfilled by sitting around moaning and waiting for the government to come help you" is uncalled for.

It is called for. It should be screamed out along the morning rooster, Muslim Prayer Call, the 6PM nightly news, Sunday Mass and Taps. If you are waiting for the government to improve your life, you are destined to disappointment, suffering and misery. Get your vision and do what it takes to get there.

The government is not there for you.

"The government is not there for you." Then what is the government for?

The "Government" is there for the collective "us."

Details are outlined in the Constitution. The government establishes guard rails for us to conduct/operate our free lives with success. We recognize that every guard rail results in restricting freedom. My effort rewards me et al.

New York and other high taxed states pay more in state taxes and get less federal aid. That doesn't mean that you support Red states. How do GOP majority Red States keep their constituents at or below the poverty line?
That is a broad statement. Do you have anything to back that up?

Do you New Yorkers also support Texas, Florida, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wyoming that have no state income tax?

States with no income tax often make up the lost revenue with other taxes or reduced services.
A state’s total tax burden, which measures the percent of income paid in state and local taxes, could be a more accurate measure of its affordability than its income tax rate alone.
Other factors—including healthcare, cost of living, and job opportunities—are also important in determining how expensive a state is.

I sure hope to hell that Red states are paying less. This "temporary" tax on citizens is sure lasting a long time. One of the things I give Red states credit for is allowing Feds/Blue states to pay for some of those stupid ass mandates they put on the country. Figure it out. You want to mandate vaccines "pay for it", you want to mandate renewables "pay for it", you want to mandate Obammy care "pay for it", you want to mandate coal production and shut down jobs "pay for it", you want to stop farmers from farming so you can buy from China "pay for it", you want to mandate a reduction in steal so you can buy foreign "pay for it". Red states are smart!!!
