It was President Johnson and Sec of Defense McNamara who told the carrier to call the American planes back.
LIBERTY was able to signal for help stating they were being attacked by Israel planes.
Lyndon Johnson told them to stand down. Do not go and render assistance.
It's amazing the ship didn't sink as was their intention.

It is a shame sooo many Americans are unaware of what happened on Israel's attack on the USA reconanance ship The Pueblo.
They thought they would be able to blame Egypt, and get away with it.

Captured off the coast of North Korea.
Admiral Butcher was the captain.
It wasn't attacked like the Liberty in international waters.
The USS PUEBLO was an intelligence ship like LIBERTY.
