Democrats are ready to write the obituary for Donald Trump’s political career.
The former President has been consistently underestimated by the political establishment.
And Democrats are frantic after they discovered this painful political reality about Donald Trump.
The conventional political wisdom among Democrats and the Republican establishment is that former President Donald Trump has no chance in the 2024 election.
They believe four criminal indictments and a slew of phony controversies have made Trump too toxic to be able to win another General Election.
Once again, the political class is writing off his chances in an election.
Trump is making the so-called political experts look foolish with his strength in a potential 2024 rematch against President Joe Biden.
Trump is in a stronger position today than in 2016
A Reuters/Ipsos poll sent shockwaves throughout the political world with the results it found for a Trump-Biden 2024 rematch.
The poll found that Trump is on pace for a bigger victory in the Electoral College than he pulled off in 2016.
Biden is being dragged down by his age and by poor marks from voters over his handling of crime and the economy.
Trump is leading Biden by a 41% to 35% margin, with 24% undecided in the seven most important battleground states of North Carolina, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia.
If that outcome holds, then Trump would take the Presidency with 312 electoral votes, which is more than the 306 electoral votes he received in his 2016 victory.
Trump won all of those states except for Nevada in 2016, which hasn’t voted for a Republican President since George W. Bush in 2004.
Biden won in 2020 when he squeaked out narrow victories in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Wisconsin.
Trump was around 44,000 votes short in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia of winning a second term in 2020.
The former President has a narrow edge when it comes to Independent voters, with 32% compared to Biden’s 30% if the election were held today.
The poll found that the overwhelming majority of voters don’t think the 80-year-old President is up for another term in office.
79% of voters said that Biden is too old to run for reelection, including an eye-popping 65% of Democrats.
Only a meager 39% agreed that Biden was mentally up to the task of being President.
As Bill Clinton’s former advisor, James Carville, famously said, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
73% of voters said that their economic situation was the same or worse than it was before the pandemic began in 2020.
Only 35% said that they expected their economic situation to be better a year from now.
The rampant inflation, soaring energy prices, and the general malaise of the economy are giving many voters buyer’s remorse on Biden.
Polling moving toward Trump
Donald Trump is now in a better position polling against Biden than at any point during the 2020 election.
Trump’s polling for the General Election has gotten stronger since this summer, and he now has a narrow lead against Biden in the RealClearPolitics average.
Donald Trump could be on his way to once again turning conventional political wisdom on its head in the 2024 election.
