I agree with your second sentence. As to the first, they chose to go into debt. I had no college debt...until Biden!

When I went to college in 1974, the vast majority of my classmates took out loans to pay the tuition. It was a private college too. I was lucky as my parents gave me no choice, "We don't care what you do but you're going to college and we'll pay for it." Pay they did as I went on to med school after graduation. Paid for that too. I know, I'm lucky but they were proud of me. Had a long medical career.

Most of my classmates went on to professional, law school, graduate or teaching professions. All of them paid off their student debt as they had good marketable positions. The ridiculously low interest rate of the time meant that some of them took their time to pay off the loans but they did pay them off.

Get a "basket weaving" major in college and no one is going to employ that type of graduate. It's best for a teenager to take a personal inventory of what they like to do and look at the marketplace to see what job/profession to shoot for in college then study their "arse" off.

And by golly the trades are a good thing too for one who wants to work with their hands. Humankind will always need plumbers, carpenters, electricians, mechanics, etc. These folks and more take care of the "professionals".

We did not have as many problems until OBAMA federalized student loans...something else our bloated government has screwed up....

Huhhh? What kind of liberalistic bull crap is this? Teachers, B.S., M.S. and Phd is low enough as it is.

Yeah if a Phd has an idea, they might be able to go outside of a university system to make money off a patent but most likely their idea would be tied by contract to the university they work for. It's the upper level prof's who get compensated better and by gosh they should be! If students hate the hell out of them, don't want to take their classes, an institution would likely fire or retire them. The tenure thing might enter in here but if a prof is so hated (by the grapevine) and nobody wants to take their classes, they'll fail.

Plus there is the "publish or perish" issue on research stuff that likely didn't apply to the humanities that was in place in the late 70's when I was in school and might still be valid today. I have to let an "involved" academic comment on this though.

For the most part, I equate a PHD as being similar to an MBA. An MBA suggests a person knows how to run a business. But in reality they know nothing about the business or what it takes to make the light bulb burn. It was once said: "Those who can do, do. Those who cannot do, teach.".

When the braves get too old to hunt, they teach classes in how to read buffalo piles. But their teaching is based upon the experience of having been a hunter, and not theory! Most college professors have no real world experience just academia, sort of like most politicians whose whole career is based upon the swamp!

Want debt relief??
Abolish income tax

I understand but I hope that most picked an education that will give them a good pay check. As the video says pay it off its their debt the knew they would have to pay it when they signed the paper

Exactly!
Professors are indoctrinating our children as we speak! Liberals have no place in teaching. You should know how to do something before you’re allowed to teach it! Just look at the history that is being erased!

And that’s the truth! The trades fulfill our basic needs.

Our daughter got a degree in political science.
Went back to a tech school, studied radiology and is now taking CT Scans working in the medical profession.
She pays on a $40 K student debt.

So all Liberal and Fine Arts or Social studies (History, geography, economics, political science, and other non scientific subjects.need not be taught?) What would you require for someone to teach history or art or social studies? Or do you want all liberal studies eliminated? I am curious to hearing your answers.

Its a real problem if student debt is so bad it cripples a large majority of people who are unable to start their careers the want and set up their lives like getting married and buying a house. It hurts the general economy. Not everyone is like me, who got a full ride because of a generous scholarship. I paid off everything in 10 years on a small salary. Today it seems quaint I had a monthly payment of $35.

Although................. When I was in a small private college, the longstanding profs were good at teaching and chose it for a career. Many times they spent years getting the Phd and teaching all along. They affected my life for the better. Yeah there were some who paled in teaching skills, just waiting for a job in industry. Fortunately those types were rare where I went to school. I'm sure the academics have to play politics and I think the old adage, "Publish or perish." might still apply today though I will leave that to someone in academia to comment on that as I didn't go into academia. The economy affect everyone.

When I got out of the service in 1969 I borrow a lot of money to buy my first farm from then until now I've been been in and out of debt many times over and Yes the economy always affected me as well as everyone else .

When the 80's came with double digit interest rate I was having to come up with $20,000 interest on top of any principal due while going thru that we had a drought 1984 and1988 so Yes the economy did affect me and everyone else.
We survived by cutting unnecessary spending and hard work which seems to be very lacking to today's young people.

I can't help but wonder if she was working to pay for any of her schooling ?

That's fine if one knows there are jobs available and they've lined something up when they get out .

From what I've heard a lot of college kids do a whole lot of partying which might be the cause of them having to get large student debt , Just Saying
