This could all be avoided by abolishing the electoral college. In this day the technology is advanced enough that the people's votes are readily available and the electoral college is no longer necessary. The people's vote should determine the president.

EXACTLY! With the ever expanding corruption demonstrated by these current Republicans "fake electors" will be a threat moving forward. The Constitution calls for "representatives of the people" not to be misconstrued as one would be dictator. Abolish the outdated electoral college period.
