Why does the taxpayer allegedly have an obligation to pay the debts of these sniveling, entitled little snots? The only thing we, as Americans owe our fellow CITIZENS is the same opportunities we have. We do not owe them a guaranteed living. All Americans have the opportunity to attend a school of higher learning if we want to. If you choose and are willing to work for it. the opportunity exists for you with many avenues of approach. I am not willing to pay for someone elses college sabbatical, pay off their car loan, pay off their credit card bills or their mortgage. The choice presented itself to them and they gladly accepted it. They and they alone are responsible for the financial obligations (or burdens) they contracted for!

If college tuition costs are too high then maybe the eggheads indoctrinating them are overpaid. Maybe coaches and administrators are overpaid. The taxpayers should not be the ones carrying someone elses debts.

When I went to college, I won an academic scholarship and took out some loans. I was able to pay back my loans on a very modest salary in less than 10 years. I really think this should be available for all students.
I really think when they started to offer parents to take out student loans for their children it allowed colleges to have higher prices. However, it looks like many students sre not choosing higher education now. I willing to bet costs are the problem. There is less suport for students of modest means now than then, and this us wrong. Not having an well educated populance may cause long term damage to our country.

What bothers me is the billions of dollars of tax money that goes to subsidize everything from sports stadiums to the fossil fuel industry. There are two laws that we could pass that would drastically cut government spending. The first would be to eliminate subsidies to private companies at all levels federal state and local.

Many people are poor because they have made bad decisions or choose to be poor - they need to work. See comment above about personal responsibility.

However, there is nothing stopping you from giving your money to them - or paying for someone else's college tuition.

Back in my day many who went to college and worked their way thru college nowadays many don't want to do that as they're too lazy .

I personally know many youngsters that are working their way thru their schooling attending Public Universities a lot cheaper than the top of the line colleges .

We have already paid for their K-12 indoctrination. More than that is on them. As for feeding the poor. We have an obligation as a civilized society to help those who CANNOT help themselves, the sick, the infirm and some of the elderly. But I'll be damned if we have an obligation to provide for those who WILL NOT help themselves. We are now seeing LBJ's multi-generational "Great Society" of a chicken in every pot and a Cadillac in every driveway! The baby momma's and their spawn have never known anything but the government teat. Many of us are sick of the freebies to worthless specimens of humanity. They have money for tattoos, cigarettes, drugs and booze and only buy premium brands of food rather than store brands. Take them under your wing if you are so disposed but not with my money!!!!
