So, for decades now, the Russian nationals in eastern Ukraine and Crimea have struggled to be out from under the anti-Russian control of Kiev. Crimea wanted out as far back as 1991. The people of those regions have been abused and discriminated against by the forces under Kiev control, to the point of even banning their Russia language and starting a Ukraine state church separate from the Russian orthodox Church.

Did you not see the welcome the β€œ liberated Russians” gave to Ukraine forces. Russian forces invaded Ukraine in 2014. I don’t see Putin as a savior, using missile diplomacy on women and children. The mass graves in Bucha etc. Close your eyes if you want, that seems to be the only way you can pretend this is not aggression by the arrogant Putin administration.
You can work with Tucker to help the Russians take over the world.

Why does Kiev insist on keeping those regions under their control when they hate the people within them?? Why did the Ukraine government feel it was necessary to shell and bomb the donbas region for 8 long years, killing 14,000 men, women and children??

We can see clearly that Russia lacks the military might to take over the whole of Ukraine so why do we fear that Russia would try to take Poland and the rest of the former countries of the Soviet Union?? The entire assumption is pure stupidity in light of what we are seeing. Why not now, at least, go ahead and let Russia have the donbas and Crimea??? Is it for the pride of Ukraine that they want to continue to abuse the Russian nationals in those regions???

If this escalates into a nuclear war, there are an awful lot of stupid government leaders and people who are going to see how stupid they were as they try to survive in the post nuclear world.

Once the Russians had been pushed back from the area they had "liberated" from Ukraine, we were able to see the huge crowd of Ukrainians coming out and cheering the defeat of the Russians. It also underscored the ludicrous vote that the Russians had staged showing that that area wanted to be connected to Russia. Perhaps the Crimea is a different area, but that part of the Donbas region certainly didn't turn out to be. Based on that it might be logical to assume that the other areas that Russia has captured (rather than the liberation fraud the Russians tried to portray) from Eastern Ukraine will also be glad to be liberated by the Ukrainians.

If you are referring to Kherson, it is not in the donbas.

I am. Thank you. But my point remains the same. When Donbas is freed from their Russian "liberators" I wonder how many of the citizens of that area also will celebrate being freed from those "liberators." It will interesting to see.

In 2014 there was a referendum vote on separating from Ukraine. It passed with 90% in favor. The Ukraine military has been shelling them and killing them ever since. IOW, they were in a civil war with Kiev and western Ukraine.

Had the French been able to help the south during our civil war and succeeded, how many southerners would have been upset about that? Probably not all, who knows.

FYI, Crimea held the same type of vote in 1991 before the break up of the Soviet Union, to be taken out of Kiev control and switched over to Moscow. It passed by 94%. In 2014 another vote to be integrated into the Russian Federation passed with even greater percentage. I would suggest you do a little reading about the abuse of Russian nationals in those regions and you will see why.

What I don't get is why Ukraine is fighting at such a high price to retain control of lands containing people they hate???? I personally think it is economics but the pressure is from the west, not Ukraine leadership or their people. Their people simply see it as a Ukraine versus Russia hate war and they seem willing to fight it. Sad!

Thank you for your post. You are correct, I make assumptions without any attempt to make sure they could be wrong. Again thank you for your correction.
