Here is an excerpt from the Washington Free Beacon:
"Since Donald Trump became president, Republicans have lost the House, the White House, and the Senate. If they win these institutions back in 2022 and 2024, it will
not be thanks to his influence but despite it. The national GOP needs to recognize Biden’s irrelevance, settle on an economic message and agenda that wins public support, take lessons in how to talk about the right to life, and reconnect with independents, suburban voters, and moderates.
Maybe the governor of Florida, who just won reelection by 20 points without Trump’s "help," can teach them how to do it."If Donald Trump is the GOP nominee in 2024, I will vote for him. However, in our hyper polarized society today, and with the level of anti-Trump sentiment that currently exists, my personal opinion is that Trump would play a more valuable role as House Speaker than President. Our country needs someone like a Ron DeSantis to win the support of moderates and women if they want to take back the presidency in 2024. That is my takeaway from the results of the mid-term election.

I said the same thing about Trump in 2016. Trump is light years better than Biden, and did a good job, considering the obstacles he faced, but was divisive. He will also be 78 years old in 2024. This will be an issue, I guarantee. He was my second choice in 2016, until Cruz dropped out, and he is my second choice behind DeSantis now. I would support him over anyone but De Santis.

Rand Paul? Ben Carson? Tim Scott?

I've always been a Rand Paul guy.
I supported Trump. And I'll support him again.
But Ron DeSantis is the guy to beat at this time.
Trump can't win the nation again. Too much bad press and hard feelings.

You’re right, he is the guy to beat, today. I think DeSantis is more affective in Florida for now. I think a conservative sleeper candidate is in order. Someone with a calm assuring demeanor that can get the cross over vote and have the moderates listen and think. DeSantis needs to put some time between him and Trump. Trump has done well but now needs to back off and support the next generation of conservative. His ego won’t allow that and from this point forward he’ll cause more damage than good to the conservative movement. Just my opinion.

I agree. I think it petty and selfish for Trump to threaten to "dish dirt" on DeSantis if he were to compete with him for the GOP nomination. Trump can't admit that his abrasive personality is abhorent to a majority of women and independent voters. If he really cared about this country, he would recognize that the country and his party need to move on from the movement that he began. He still has a role to play, just not as a presidential candidate. He would do well to support any of the alternatives mentioned by other posters and see who emerges as the public's choice.
