He was Putin's lap dog. He defended Putin on many, many occasions. He said he was in love with that dirty dictator from North Korea. He never met a dictator he didn't like. He said he wanted to withdraw from NATO as well.
Seems to me that Trump is the last person that we should listen to.
If we give into Trump's ideas on Ukraine, that brave, democratic country, it would only encourage Putin to demand that more territory from the former Soviet empire be handed over to Russia, like the Baltic countries, and the former satellite countries like Poland, and Romania. The way to prevent war in Eastern Europe is to stand up to Putin and other bullies, not give them whatever they want. We learned that in 1939 when Chamberlin came back waving the signed treaty from the Munich conference, claiming " peace in our time ". World War 11 was just months away when Germany invaded Poland from the west and Russia invaded Poland from the east.
If some country invaded American territory, would we negotiate with them? Hell no! The only negotiation that would take place would be how much American territory should we give up? There is no other realistic plan to establish peace with a dictatorship that invades its neighbor.
