The Measure of a Man

This past Independence Day(I hope y'all had an enjoyable one),I viewed the always impressive film "Sergeant York."This 1941 movie stars Gary Cooper as the World War One hero. Certainly,Alvin York is due some accolades because he saved many of his peer's lives by boldly going up against superior numbers of Nazis who had his fellow soldiers boxed in during a deadly struggle in the Argonne forest.
But I have always admired-and tried to emulate-York for his unflinching good character. He never bragged or boasted about his deeds. He refused to be exploited for a fast buck.Instead,he went home and took up his two loves-his wife and his farm.
It is a great film about a humble,Christian gentleman.I also appreciate how York's kinfolk and friends aren't depicted as rubes, but the salt of the earth-which is exactly what they are.
Folks, they don't make films like this any more!

there were no Nazis in WWI. You dumb shit. They make very few men like Sgt. York, most have clay feet like Audey Murphy. You answered your own question about the movies.

Aww...come on now,Audie Murphy was a very poor, straight off the farm, orphaned American hero.he suffered from post traumatic war syndrome his whole post military life, and did some very heroic deeds in ww2.that is way to tough on him just to remind people that he was a human being with some real human problems

Ron, how cruel to say such things; you should give up the "Bitter Root Tea" you are addicted to.
