Coup, I think you are referring to the antarctic expedition locked in by wind driven floating ice. The unusual wind was caused by conditions related to global warming. The ships were locked in for several weeks. When the conditions changed, the floating ice moved and all the ships sailed out, without assistance.

I know that you and your kind will never accept man made changes to anything but you pay check if you have one. the problem for the deniers is they are one fearful of change and have no clear idea of how to deal with the changes coming , so the result for many of the deniers is either cognitive dissonance or outright aggressive speech and the retreat in to protective dogma , so trying to use facts they choose to not like they then refute them and there is a lot of change happening , climate change is one really big one and I believe we are on the edge of going from prevention to mitigation (IMHO we should have began co-2 emission reduction during the Carter administration)
another area of contention is the demographic changes taking place and all the obstacles being put in place to disenfranchise those of different ethnicity (it is a losing proposition for the resisters to change but they will try)

ok you have given credence to what I have been writing , we as a people have to do something to mitigate the changes coming because of global warming , doing nothing is worse than doing something .
yes it will be uncomfortable and yes the economic changes will be difficult but not doing anything will be much worse
