Why are the Democrats so opposed to the Keystone XL pipeline?

This is hard to answer because it’s obvious.

The better way to ask this is to ask why Republicans supported it to begin with.

It’s a Canadian pipeline. It’s designed to help Canada, not the US. And without the XL, Canadian oil exports hit a record high in March of 2022.
It actually would have increased the price of gas in the American midwest. This is because Canadian oil is sold at a discount in the midwest, and that discount disappears if that oil is exported instead.
It would have moved heated and pressurized sludge across our largest supply of fresh drinking water.
So it didn’t help America, immediately would have hurt a few Americans, and potentially posed an even greater risk to even more Americans. How dumb would it be to support this?

A couple of takeaways after reading this article: (1) Extracting oil from tar sands comes with steep environmental and economic costs. (2) It is not a pipeline to America...it's a pipeline through America and it threatens to be a disaster to us if it leaks poisons on the way. (3) The oil would be sent chiefly overseas -- not to gas line pumps in the U.S.

So so ignorant it is scary. The pipeline would have produced American jobs. Not part time Obama era jobs, but well paying American jobs. The pipeline would have put a lot of oil supplies on the World market, and depressed the World oil price. That would have hurt middle eastern producers such as Iran, who surprise surprise surprise and Shazam are our enemies.

It also would have severely hurt Russia. You Liberals remember Russia, doncha ? Maybe if your BOY Joe had not helped Russia by making sure the World Price would go up, Russia would not have so many Rubles with which to attack Ukraine. Just sayin.

Also our good buddies, the Western Europeans, had so hooked themselves on Russia energy, like so many Heroin Addicts, they can't fully support Ukraine. The West Europeans allowed the Green Energy snake oil salesmen to ruin their energy sectors. The lower oil and gas prices the Keystone XL pipeline would have caused, would have allowed the idiot Western Europeans to better resist Russian Energy Blackmail.

Cost prohibitive to build another refinery. From start to finish is close to 10 years and a billion dollars. Return on investment would take decades. Chevron CEO stated a refinery hasn't been built in the US since the 70s and in his opinion, one will never be built again.

Not sure why some day mid 70s and others miss 2016?
