I’m so glad to read this… Yes it’s a good thing that be a hospital is available to our injured soldiers I just wish that it was as easy for all as you seem to experience. I feel we dropped the ball on them and there should not be one homeless, just not one single one. But it is nice to read that you have always experienced good service. We need more things that are refreshing rather than all the negativity that is around us and becoming harder to simply shrug off…

LJ, my wife worked for Social Service in Norfolk, Va. for 32 years. Every year they would go out an try to collect the homeless and put them in living Quarters, especially in the fall and winter but they wouldn't stay preferring to be on their own. Mostly due to booze or drug abuse.

You can't help those who won't even try to work with you to help them.

I'm now dealing with my wife with Alzheimer's and she's in the same situation as those homeless people except she has a warm and or cool roof over her head and I'm making sure she is fed everyday and she has the medical attention she needs.

Not what I had in mind for retirement but it is what it is. Mike

I am sorry for the hard times your wife and yourself are going through. You are right about so many who are homeless--They get a sleeping bag from a shelter and leave it on the street a few nights after it was given to them and then they go back to get another one. They shoplift out of the stores where they cash in their bottles- They strew trash in the parks and on the streets. They leave piles of their discarded clothes and go get more they will soon discard. They had to close our local post office at night because they made camp in the lobby at night-- Lit the waste baskets on fire for heat and cooking--left piles of excrement on the floor-- They won't work-- They jump in front of cars to collect insurance money-- they steal and break in to vacant houses.--- The few pretty women among them are hookers that can be had for a can of beer-- That is true for Coos Bay--probably for every place else.

Thanks Linda-- I am of the belief there should be soldiers homes for those who are homeless and feeble.--They are all getting older. If we can invest a Trillion $$$ to blow up Russians we can most certainly do that.

Agreed!!!!

Ok like everyone else I have to gripe about medications-- It took 3 tries before I got a blood pressure medication with zero side effects. Statin drugs are another gripe. The leg cramps were unbearable with the first two they put me on. I quit and Felt better-- but they decided my cholesterol at 104 was not good enough so they put me on another one. Lately now my legs feel like they won't hold me up and I am taking shorter steps. I have another Vet friend who experiencing the same things from the same medication. He quit it and is now getting better. Screw Statin drugs--they are a bummer--stay away from them. Eat more Vegetables and salads --cut the fat off your steaks-- just my thoughts.

I’ve heard and read things about statins that imply they are no better for you and can result in side effects just as bad as to why you’re taking them…

Of course I prefer a more natural approach than just another pill and always look for alternatives when Drs say I need this or that.. Likewise, there are some who truly do benefit from the statins and don’t have complicating factors with them. It seems more difficult to know what we should really be taking versus what is pushed on us to support the pharmaceutical company….🤷🏻‍♀️

There was one, my friend Jim. He wasn't even homeless, good marriage and all that stuff. The same VA that did wonders for me kept him waiting until he almost died. A few friends and I pooled our moneys and took him to a regular doctor. He had some kind of cancer I think but it was curable. I'm supposed to see him in a few days. We both like aquariums and I finally got mine from forest green to clear water.

Having friends like you and the others is what defines “ friendship!” I hope he is now on the road to full recovery…

I love aquariums too… Calming to watch those beautiful fish swimming around or hiding in their little places and the sound of the water pumping through sooo relaxing..Not fun cleaning them tho...😳😁.

I donate not near enough time at my local VA office usually processing paperwork. Intake on patients and helping them to fill out the necessary forms. It amazes me how many of them are not aware that they are entitled to receive travel pay reimbursement. The majority just don’t even know about it. And when I first started I thought how remiss is that that they aren’t even told about it. At least that’s the reply I often receive… all those trips they make back-and-forth and never compensated for it. So it became one of the first questions I asked and one of the first forms we completed together so they could get reimbursed. It’s little things like that that matter at least in my opinion..Most vets don’t have a lot of money to begin with and anything that helps them getting back-and-forth to their facility or even Drs visits is well just that… Also those waiting for wheelchairs a never ending list and I’m not talking about waiting a couple of weeks I’m talking about waiting months… Nowhere near the amount they need I do not understand why they are not available at the VA hospital or at least have specific medical facilities they deal with to get hearing aid devices or wheelchairs or blood pressure machines or whatever it may be that is needed…
or availability of transportation buses that can pick up vets especially those in wheel chairs… They have them just not near enough.. Like Tom pointed out we can spend billions to send to foreign countries for whatever yet we can’t ensure our vets have what they need and that’s what irks the hell out of me.

And once again I’m glad to read so many replies saying you are getting good care that’s the most important!

Thank you and every one of you for your service….❤️✨

i am very happy with the way my wrist turned out despite the little bit of pain from the incision. I am sleeping through the night and not waking up in unbearable pain now. I am grateful. My wife is ornry as ever now and able to take over the household chores from me. She has a port for immunotherapy and we are hoping for good results. Thankyou Lin for always being so thoughtful and caring. You are a blessing to all people and creatures--kinda like Snow White in real life.

I will keep that in mind. You’re not the first I’ve heard warn about those drugs and sure hope the drug companies are trying to fix that.

Statens are not as great as they are touted to be. They causes leg cramps for me, and arthritis like symptoms. After going off them, I also found out I had been somewhat depressed. It happened so slowly I didn't notice it.

Today I got carpal tunnel surgery on my left wrist many thanks to the V A hospital in Eugene Oregon. I needed help really bad and my country came through for me. This not the first time either. I know there are folks who bitch about the service they get but my experience for the past 40years has been nothing but good. God bless our V A medical system and God bless the USA.
