Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday signaled bipartisan talks on gun legislation
McConnell said he asked Sen. John Cornyn to negotiate with Senate Democrats.
A group of five Democrats and three Republicans had a meeting on Thursday to lay out a plan for negotiations.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has asked Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) to negotiate with Democratic senators on a “bipartisan solution” to curb gun violence. There in lies the real problem, it's always the gun, not the A-hole using it.
McConnell told CNN that he encouraged Cornyn to talk to Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) “and others who are interested in trying to get an outcome that’s directly related to the problem.”
“And so I am hopeful that we could come up with a bipartisan solution that’s directly related to the facts of this awful massacre,” he said.
McConnell noted he’s interested in coming up with legislation that will directly address the circumstances of the Texas school shooting and does not advance the Democrats’ agenda.
Since the shooting happened in Texas, Senate Democrats had expressed their interest in having Cornyn as the point of contact for negotiation. Cornyn has shown willingness and compassion to work with Democrats on previous similar issues.
Senate legislators of both parties held small-group discussions to gauge bipartisan support for the passage of bills following the Texas elementary school shooting.
However, any gun-related legislation would require 60 votes to pass the Senate.
On Thursday, Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would have created new federal offices focused on domestic terrorism.
The vote on the bill was set by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in response to a shooting in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, where the gunman fatally shot 10 Black people.
O Thursday, a group of five Democrats and three Republicans had a meeting in the Capitol to begin the layout for negotiations, focusing on expanded background checks and red flag legislation.
Sens. Murphy, Sinema, Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) attended the meeting.

Why is it that all of these school shootings seem to happen during election years. The dumbocraps don't care about our children. Hell, they think abortion can be done after a child is born. As far as I'm concerned with McConnell, that rhino needs to go bye-bye!

This starts out bad.
5 dems and only 3 Reps. That is stupid from the start.
Forming legislation right after a catastrophe is always about emotions and not common sense or good law.
They are starting out looking for compromise. That is where each side gives up this or that. Bad law to start with.
They would only come back next year with another attempt to ban guns and another compromise. Always stretching further and further in the direction of what the Dems want, no guns, and never in the direction of sensible legislation.
For sensible legislation, after the passions have died down, form a special committee with 5 or whatever Senators from each party, with no chairman running the committee from either party, but a separate Chairman picked by lot every day, for equality. Then the members of the committee are picked in a manner where the Reps pick Dems and the Dems pick Reps, which would tend to eliminate extremists and be middle roaders. And these member are picked by the Senate as a whole and not leadership. We've seen what Pelosi did with picking the members for that Kangaroo court 1/6 committee.
And they go in with the idea of writing original legislation, not negotiation, that passes the Constitution.

Capt, I firmly believe that you are correct. I believe that the deep state, FBI, CIA and the Democrats are behind most if not all mass shootings. They want gun control and confiscation so they can take over and rule over us. Communism is good for the leaders and shared misery for everyone else.

Capt, I believe that the Democrats will give us the motivation to fight back just like the British did when they marched to Lexington and Concord to confiscate the firearms from the Colonists. I am attaching a screenshot of a comment from another website that I was on a while ago.
