When advocates for a return to the policies of President Donald J. Trump say they want, “America First,” what they mean is that they want Americans to be first to be served in the United States of America by the US Government. No other story than this one will illustrate this concept better today.
“Empty shelves Biden” has been trending for weeks during a nationwide shortage of baby formula that has sent parents desperately rushing from store to store for provisions to feed their babies.
But one group of people who don’t have to worry about such hardships is illegal immigrants detained by the Southern border patrol, according to one lawmaker.
A Florida lawmaker told her followers that the Biden administration has been shipping “pallets” of baby formula to migrant holding facilities.
“They are sending pallets, pallets of baby formula to the border,” said Republican Rep. Kat Cammack in one of two online postings yesterday, on eon Twitter and one on Facebook. “
Meanwhile, in our own district at home, we cannot find baby formula,” she added, holding a photo of empty shelves where the formula would be, to help people really understand the situation.
Cammack said that her source was a border agent, who sent her photographs of the deliveries, and she posted one online to inform people about the hypocrisy.
“They’re receiving pallets and more pallets of baby formula at the border,” she said, holding one of the photos showing both Advantage brand formula.
“This was taken at Ursula processing facility [in McAllen, Texas] where thousands are being housed and processed and then released,” Cammack said on the video message.
“‘Kat, you would not believe the shipment I just brought in,” she said the agent told her. “He has been a border patrol agent for 30 years and he has never seen anything quite like this. He is a grandfather and he is saying that his own children can’t get baby formula.”
The shortage was sparked by a manufacturing problem and has been compounded by people running to hoard supplies. It is so concerning that many people who never pay attention to media and politics have turned to social media to vent their frustrations at Biden.
The New York Post reported :
Retail outlets have seen a 30% drop in the availability of some popular brands, due to supply chain issues, labor shortages, inflation and safety concerns.
In February, Abbott Nutrition recalled formula made in its Michigan plant and shut down its facilities after two infants died and several others were hospitalized after consuming its product. The FDA has not cleared the factory to reopen, and it’s unclear when production will be able to resume.
Meanwhile, the feeding frenzy has some New Yorkers searching as far as Wisconsin to get formula for their little ones.
The New York Times reported recently on the troubles Texas parents are having finding the formula that is being shipped by their homes to the migrant holding centers.
The Washington Examiner reported:
In a story headlined, “A Baby Formula Shortage Leaves Desperate Parents Searching for Food,” the Times said, “Some parents are driving hours at a time in search of supplies. Others are watering down formula or rationing it, hoping for an end to the shortage.”
Cammack was not critical of migrants receiving the formula but said the administration should put American parents first - that would be America First, something that seems to be absolutely foreign to the Democrats.
“I don’t know about you, but if I am a mother, anywhere anytime in America, and I go to my local Walmart or Target or Publix or Safeway or Kroger or wherever it may be that you shop and you are seeing their shelves and you are seeing signs that you are not able to get baby formula. And then you see the American government sending by the pallet thousands and thousands of containers of baby formula to the border, that would make my blood boil,” she said.
She added, “it is not the childrens’ fault at all. But what is infuriating to me is that this is another example of the America last agenda that the Biden administration continues to perpetuate.”
According to the NYP:
One Mother who is unable to breastfeed, the New Jersey teacher started her 3-month-old, Rachel, on powdered formula because it was relatively affordable and easy to find. For months, she’s been feeding Enfamil NeuroPro Baby Formula, and she initially paid $9 per bottle or $50 for six on Amazon. Today, she’s paying $11 per bottle — if she’s lucky.
“There was a time when I was down to one bottle left – I couldn’t find it anywhere. Luckily my mom had gone to Acme and they had just gotten a shipment in – they let her get three cans,” Pines said. “They’ll limit you … There’s signs up that say you can only get three bottles of formula.”
She attempted to switch to an organic formula called Bobbie, but got put on a waitlist.
“It’s insane,” she said. “We’re screwed if the shortage keeps going on and we can’t get any.
