Pentagon confirms ‘complete withdrawal’ of Russian troops

Pentagon confirms ‘complete withdrawal’ of Russian troops

Russian soldiers have “completely” vacated areas around the Ukrainian capital, Kiev and another city nearby, the Pentagon has said, following a pledge from the Kremlin to “drastically” reduce military activity in the region as negotiators attempt to bring an end to the fighting.

The Pentagon has observed a full withdrawal from the formerly besieged areas, a senior military official told reporters on Wednesday during a background briefing.

“We would assess that Russian forces near Kiev and Chernigov have completed their withdrawal from the area to re-consolidate and refit in Belarus and in Russia,” they said, adding, “We are not showing Russian forces in or around Kiev or to the north [of] Kiev, and we’re not showing Russian forces in or around Chernigov.”

The statement comes after Russia declared plans to significantly pull back its forces in the two cities late last month, saying it would be a show of good faith as peace talks brokered by Turkey inch forward. Days prior, the Russian military noted that it had achieved its main goals in the area and would shift the focus to the “liberation” of the Donbass regions in the east, which declared secession from the government in Kiev in 2014 and have since been recognized as independent by Moscow.

The withdrawal has been marred by controversy, with Ukrainian officials alleging that hundreds of civilians were killed in the town of Bucha on the outskirts of Kiev before Russian soldiers left the area. Though Moscow has unequivocally denied the charge and requested a United Nations Security Council meeting to address the matter, Washington and some Western allies have taken Kiev’s side, with US President Joe Biden suggesting Russia may be responsible for “war crimes.”

Despite the accusations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has insisted that his country would continue negotiations with Moscow, saying “Ukraine must find peace” after repeatedly expressing interest in direct talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

"Ukrainian officials alleging that hundreds of civilians were killed in the town of Bucha on the outskirts of Kiev before Russian soldiers left the area."

I would suggest that everyone read Tom Luongo's article entitled [b]"Bucha, Budapest and the Multiplying Problems of Real War Criminals". https://tomluongo.me/2022/04/05/bucha-budapest-multiplying-problems-war-criminals/

He raises a number of issues including the accusations of the civilian massacre at Bucha. He offers this observation, "Given the track record of Russia’s accusers here I’m taking the position that these allegations have to be incontrovertibly proven publicly for me to believe a word of them." He goes on to say, "And the main amplifier of this story, the UK, blocked not one but two proposals by the Russian Federation to investigate what happened in Bucha. We can’t have that, there’s a war to escalate." Is this true? I have no idea.

On the related "sanctioning Russia" issue, he goes into the EU's proposal regarding the results of the Hungarian election, which came as a thorn in the side of the Globalists European Commission!

"In anticipation of any resistance to the EU’s new set of draconian and frankly insane sanctions on Russia the European Commission wasted no time in announcing they are beginning ‘rule of law’ procedures against Hungary to cut them out of any monetary distributions within the bloc."

He goes on to say, "Elections have consequences when you don’t control the outcome of them. This is why the neocons and war criminals like Hillary Clinton, Lindsey Graham and Joe Biden are all screaming that something or someone has to do something to stop Putin whose operation in Ukraine still has the potential to expose everything.

It’s why Bucha was so haphazardly staged and ham-fistedly packaged up to us.

The blow out results in Hungary on Sunday were a major blow to EU confidence and solidarity. Twelve years of calling Orban a Nazi while supporting real 4th generation Nazis in Ukraine landed with a whimper."

"Acting in good faith" . What an absolutely preposterous thing to say or even think. Good faith from
barbaric, murdering savages?
The only reason is to regroup for the oncoming massive assault on the Southeast and to take Odessa also, which is their real intended prize. The U.S. and E.U. in their cowering stupidity ,so far have been hesitant to fortify Odessa with anti missile, anti ship and anti aircraft weapon systems. The Russians know this and will keep Odessa bombardment to a minimum so as soon as they are ready for the massive attack they can with relative ease destroy Odessa. The rest of Eastern Europe in their delusional stupors do not understand that they are also on Putin's wish list. This whole new plan is expected to begin somewhere in the time frame of 4-6 weeks. There is also another
possible scenario. The war could drag on for years until Ukraine completely crumbles on it's own, however my belief is the first.
To anyone who thinks this is "not their problem", take a look around the world at the already happening food riots,
Peru, Sri Lanka, North Africa and more. When the food shortages really take place in the late part of this year,
it will be everyone's problem.

I'm not there Sky, and am skeptical of information from either side. Even "so called" independent investigations such as the Malaysia Flight 370 Dutch investigation are fraught with political pressures to achieve a desired conclusion.

What is frequently overlooked in this crisis, are the root causes, and how they could have been averted. That is what is often missing, when all the focus is on the horror and destruction, while real, is being exploited for political reasons.

I believe that's because they are being slaughtered in the thousands so now they just bomb and use rockets and missals. Your point is? Mike

It is also conceivable that Kiev was never the main focus of this incursion, but rather a distraction to mask the real objective, which was the demilitarization and denazification of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

Consider the following statement by Jacques Bard in his interview with Thomas Kaiser:
https://www.pressenza.com/2022/04/the-policy-of-the-usa-has-always-been-to-prevent-germany-and-russia-from-cooperating-more-closely/

"What is the background to these objectives?
"The demilitarization is understandable, as Ukraine had gathered its entire army in the south, between Donbass and Crimea. A quick operation would allow it to encircle these troops. This is what happened, and a large part of the Ukrainian army is currently surrounded in a large cauldron in the Donbass region, between Slavyansk, Kramatorsk and Severodonetsk. The Russians have surrounded it and are in the process of neutralizing it. Remains the so-called denazification. When the Russians say this, it is not just an empty phrase. To compensate for the unreliability of the Ukrainian army, powerful paramilitary forces have been developed since 2014, including, for example, the famous Azov regiment. But there are many more. There are a huge number of such groups that are under Ukrainian command but not exclusively composed of Ukrainians. The Azov regiment, for example, comprises 19 nationalities, including French, even Swiss, etc. It is a real foreign legion. In total, these extreme right-wing groups have about 100,000 fighters, according to Reuters."
