DNC and Hillary campaign fined thousands for 'Steele dossier' stunt
Agreements with FEC call for payments of $105,000, $8,000

We now know that the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign for president in 2016 misled the federal government about funding that infamous and thoroughly debunked "Steele dossier" that made wild and unsubstantiated allegations about then-candidate Donald Trump.

It's because they've agreed to pay fines of $105,000, and $8,000, respectively, for those actions that broke federal law.

Paul Bedard in his Washington Secrets column explains he obtained exclusive access to the details of agreements between the DNC, and Clinton campaign, and the Federal Election Commission.

He posted online images of the agreements in which the FEC informed the Coolidge Reagan Foundation, which filed its complaint more than three years ago, it was fining Clinton's campaign treasurer $8,000 and the DNC's treasurer $105,000.

"The election agency said that Clinton and the DNC violated strict rules on describing expenditures of payments funneled to the opposition research firm Fusion GPS through their law firm," he reported.

The dossier was just part of the orchestrated campaign to damage Trump during the 2016 election. Evidence has now shown that Clinton proposed creating the illusion that Trump's campaign was somehow tied to Russia in order to divert the public's attention from her own email scandal percolating at the time. In fact, Barack Obama apparently was even briefed on that strategy.

Eventually, the series of wild allegations prompted Democrats to push for a special counsel, and Robert Mueller spent years "investigating" the claims, only to come up without evidence the Democrats demanded.

Bedard's report explains, "A combined $1,024,407.97 was paid by the treasurers of the DNC and Clinton campaign to law firm Perkins Coie for Fusion GPS’s information, and the party and campaign hid the reason, claiming it was for legal services, not opposition research.

"Instead, the DNC’s $849,407.97 and Clinton campaign’s $175,000 covered Fusion GPS’s opposition research on the dossier, a basis for the so-called 'Russia hoax' that dogged Trump’s first term."

The Clinton campaign and DNC had claimed the payments actually were for "legal advice and services" because Perkins Coie hired Fusion, but the claims were unsuccessful, with the agency declaring the law was clear – and the campaign and DNC broke it.

The agreements explained that the campaign and the party claimed that they were not lying – but they are no longer contesting the finding.

"Solely for the purpose of settling this matter expeditiously and to avoid further legal costs, respondent[s] does not concede, but will not further contest the commission's finding of probable cause to proceed," the FEC noted in its report on the conclusion of the investigation.

Bedard said he obtained access to the results, and the agreement "is to be made public in a month."

Foundation spokesman Dan Backer told Bedard, "This may well be the first time that Hillary Clinton — one of the most evidently corrupt politicians in American history — has actually been held legally accountable, and I'm proud to have forced the FEC to do their job for once. The Coolidge Reagan Foundation proved that with pluck and grit, Americans who stand with integrity can stand up to the Clinton machine and other corrupt political elites."

Separately, special counsel John Durham continues to investigate the origins of the campaign created by Democrats under the Obama administration to hurt Trump during his first campaign.

He's already obtained one guilty plea from a former FBI lawyer to altering evidence and has charged two others, including Clinton's campaign lawyer, with lying to investigators.

Bedard said, "Clinton has in the past defended her campaign’s spending for the information and the work of her campaign lawyer, Marc Elias, with Fusion GPS, which compiled the dossier and hired former British spy Christopher Steele to dig further on Trump.

"Trump has assailed the dossier as full of lies, and the FBI has called it fake, but only after the damage settled in on the president."

The FBI said it was fake? When was that...and a president famous for lying doesn't really mean anything if he says it is full of lies? He called anything that didn't view him glowingly as being lie so his calling as being nothing but a lie so what would you expect him to say. Lastly, this is less than a slap on the wrist so what exactly is your reasoning in posting here?

This FEC action will be very damning evidence in Trump's RICO lawsuit.

Did you not read the second sentence in the post. HILLARY SHOULD BE IN JAIL! God, some people are dense! Unfortunately, they also vote. Our republic is doomed.

True, but the Clintons seem to always skate away without any repercussions. This time may be different. But one thing is certain; most of the voting public are aware of how crooked the Clintons are and they are through in politics...except if the Democrats have no one else and have to nominate Hillary again in 2024 because they have no one else. They have no one else at this time.

Thanks to newly declassified and released footnotes from Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, it is confirmed the FBI knew the Steele dossier -- a false document full of Russian propaganda that was cobbled together by Fusion GPS on behalf of the Clinton campaign -- was used by agents to pursue FISA warrants even though it knew it was unreliable.

"Despite multiple reports in 2017 warning that claims in an anti-Trump dossier were 'false' and 'part of a Russian disinformation campaign,' the FBI continued to rely on the Democrat-funded opposition research to spy on a Trump campaign aide. The once-classified details contained in footnotes of the Justice Department Inspector General’s postmortem of the FBI’s flawed spying operation were unmasked at the repeated urging of Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.)," Grassley released Wednesday night.

"Earlier this month, the Justice Department provided the senators with a partially-declassified version of three footnotes following their January request, but key information detailing exactly when the FBI became aware of exculpatory intelligence reports remained redacted. The new material, provided with the assistance of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, sheds new light on the remaining redactions as well as additional information that was previously classified in the IG report," the release continues.

Details in the footnotes reveal the FBI knew the dossier wasn't credible before applying for FISA renewals on at least one Trump campaign official. This information was also known before the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Adding insult to injury, Russian intelligence officials were aware of Steele's investigation into the Trump campaign in July 2016. This information helped Russia with disinformation campaigns against the United States.

"Having reviewed the matter, and having consulted the heads of the relevant Intelligence Community elements, I have declassified the enclosed footnotes. I consulted with the Attorney General William Barr, and he has authorized the ODNI to say that he concurs in the declassification insofar as it relates to DOJ equities," Acting DNI Director Richard Grenell wrote in a letter to Grassley and Johnson with the attached footnotes.

Further, the "FBI had open counterintelligence case on Steele’s key source, but failed to apprise the FISA Court" and "despite repeated warnings of tainted evidence, FBI continuously sought FISA renewals."

“As we can see from these now-declassified footnotes in the IG’s report, Russian intelligence was aware of the dossier before the FBI even began its investigation and the FBI had reports in hand that their central piece of evidence was most likely tainted with Russian disinformation,” Senators Grassley and Johnson said about the confirmed revelations.

Thanks to Attorney General Barr’s and Acting Director Grenell’s declassification of the footnotes, we know the FBI’s justification to target an American Citizen was riddled with significant flaws. Inspector General Michael Horowitz and his team did what neither the FBI nor Special Counsel Mueller cared to do: examine and investigate corruption at the FBI, the sources of the Steele dossier, how it was disseminated, and reporting that it contained Russian disinformation," they continued.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, the Democrat who bolstered the Special Counsel investigation and led the impeachment crusade against President Trump, has always maintained the FISA process used against the Trump campaign was done properly and legally. All of the evidence, further backed by the declassified footnotes, is to the contrary.

Thanks to newly declassified and released footnote... (show quote)

Peter S damn well knows it's a fake document. He just wants to stir the pot the way leftists always do, cheapening the preciseness of language by redefining words.

It may seem like an insignificant thing, but it's not. Words mean things. Heck, to leftists, words can have such profound meaning as to be considered violence.

Misusing words shouldn't come as much of a surprise. People do it all the time. The left makes a living on it. Just look at how we used to describe men and women, boys and girls. It was simple and almost without exception. Your sex (or gender) was indeed a binary choice. You're either one or the other – just as God (or nature) intended.

But that wasn't good enough for the loony left. One day sex and gender went their separate ways, and now sex is "biology" and gender is a social construct. And why? Because we allowed the lie that sex and gender are different to be repeated enough that it became "fact."

That and it creates chaos and inflames passions, which the left thrives on.

DNC and Hillary campaign fined thousands for 'Steele dossier' stunt
Agreements with FEC call for payments of $105,000, $8,000

It's an insult that when they were found guilty the pennies they had to pay for what they did to our country. Absolutely disgusting the lack of justice done to them for the harm they inficted.
