Radical leftists often live and work in enclaves far removed from the average voter.

This creates a tendency to support policies wildly out of step with everyday Americans and make statements that can only be described as completely tone-deaf.

Now, two Democrat politicians showed just how out of touch the far-left is.

State Senators Rachel May of Syracuse and Robert Jackson of New York City posed Tuesday with a banner showing a plane pointed at the twin towers of the World Trade Center that were brought down in the September 11 terror attacks.

The plane had the words “climate change” on it.

The State Senators were in Albany at a rally outside the State Capitol for supporters who want $15 billion included in the budget for “climate justice.”

State Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt minced no words when describing what had happened on Twitter, saying, “This shameful use of 9/11 imagery offends every New Yorker. My colleagues Rachel May and Senator Jackson are using a horrific attack on our Nation to advance their political agenda. The New York State Senate Democrats should condemn this disgusting display.”

Later, in an interview with Local TV station Fox 5, Ortt added, “They should never conflate 9/11 with climate change or, quite frankly, any issue.”

Even though May was seen flashing a big smile while holding the sign in question, she pleaded ignorance when confronted about the picture, saying that she “posed for numerous photos with activists, and did not see the content of the sign” at the rally and the march.

Sensing her error, May later tweeted, “The imagery on the banner is unacceptable and I would never endorse such a cynical use of our state’s history to score cheap points. I apologize sincerely to all New Yorkers and call upon the organizers to similarly condemn this message.”

For his part, Jackson also said that he was unaware of the artwork on the banner and said he would “never support anything that denigrates the memory of all who were impacted by 9/11. The artwork depicted is wrong and I fully reject it.”

Indeed the only time I saw the banner in its entirety was on the minority leader's social media. There are two truths here: climate justice is not a political agenda and 9/11 can never be used for political points.

As a NYC native who continues to be personally impacted by the events of that horrific day, I sincerely apologize to anyone who might be confused by any political ploy to mischaracterize my actions.

But, according to the TV station, Jackson was lying, because after he emailed his statement the station was made aware of a video showing him looking directly at the banner, holding a megaphone, and repeating the words that are on it.

The climate organization that recorded the video, New York Renews, later deleted all evidence of it from their Twitter and Facebook pages.

In the end, it just shows how far removed from reality far-left Democrats truly are in this day and age.
