The independence of Crimea and Donbas independence? As Russian states; not all that independent. To keep Ukraine out of NATO? That wasn't going to happen. It was only Zelensky asking for membership. Putin has much greater sights on reconstituting the old USSR and Russian Empire. He fancies himself as the next Peter the Great. The short simple version, whether you agree or not, is that Putin is an opportunist and he saw his opportunity because of western weakness.

I judge the situation differently...

Zelensky has already indicated he is willing to sign a treaty concerning NATO....

I doubt America will accept it... But that's not really the point...

You might find this interesting... Apparently when you're retired you don't have to worry about toeing the narrative....

I know you do and you bring up valid points. Who gives a damn if America won't accept it. It's not America's to accept or not. Putin bit off more than he could chew and made a grave tactical error, underestimating the Ukrainian's resolve to be independent and defend itself. As I have stated before, Ukraine is a schizophrenic country where the east is very much tied to Russia, its language, culture, and ethnicity, while the western half is more western looking in its outlook.

If they can reach some agreement to end this, all the better. May cooler heads prevail.

Yes, a statute. How are you doing these days? Is your Marine grandson-in-law back at Camp Pendleton?

Yes, he is still at Pendleton. His Family will be visiting us here in Central Texas around the end of April, first of May. That will determine when or if I'll make the trip out there I had planned for this year. It had been my intention to go out there this Spring. Now, if I go, it would likely be in the early Fall...to avoid driving cross-country during winter.

My offer still stands. Does your young Marine like beer and has he visited some of the breweries in North San Diego County? There are plenty of them nearby.

Tuck, I know he drinks, but not heavily. I am not sure of how much he knows about North San Diego County.

I'll bet he and his buddies have been to a few of them at some time or other. I'm not a heavy drinker either. But I do like to try new brews whenever and wherever I find them.

You're shocked that I'm not a heavy drinker or that his buddies would take him to a brewery?

Imagine the impact if Ukraine had MIGs, more drones, and more anti-tank Stinger and Javelin weapons earlier. The Ukrainians may even have American military advisors and US satellite and intelligence assistance.

Just imagine if this were actually true!

The Nazi thing is kind of funny. Zelensky is Jewish and won 70% of the vote. I'll venture to say that most Ukrainian Nazis don't really know what Nazism stood for. Given a choice between Nazism and Soviet Communism that they lived under for seven decades and Stalin killing 5 million Ukrainians, the evil they don't understand looks better than the evil they do understand.

While I often disagree with your comments, this is an excellent one. The great famine was called Holodomor.

Nazis are funny.. Haha...
Ukrainian Nazis know exactly what it stood for... They are the descendants of the Ukrainians who stood with the Nazis of the third Reich...
Yes...Zelensky won 70% of the vote... Which leaves a large percent that didn't vote for him... And he has joked about nazism...And his support for it... It's on video...
Why do you think him being Jewish proves there are no Nazis???
Here's a challenge - Why is the Ukraine one if only two nations that voted against the UN resolution against nazism and neo nazism????
Bet you can't answer

"Why do you think him being Jewish proves there are no Nazis???"

So, tell me where I said, or even implied, there are no Nazis because Zelensky is Jewish.

There you go again with your half-truths. I believe there were many many more abstentions than just the two who voted against it. Most of what the UN does is BS. The Russians are on the Security Council. Iran and Syria are on the Human Right Commission. No further examples are needed to demonstrate the corruption within the U.N.

Why do YOU think Ukraine and the U.S. voted against the resolution, and several other countries abstained from the vote. I believe even your dear Canada abstained from the vote. What was wrong with this resolution? I'll leave you to ponder that question for a while.

The U.S also voted against the self-determination resolution right after a resolution was passed to support Palestine. Ponder on that for a while and let me know when you figure it out.
