Russia was so broke when trump took office it couldn't pay attention, let alone for developing it's vast oil reserves. Exxon had a deal on the table to buy a percentage of Rosneft and reserves for $500 Billion cash and investments in developing extraction. Obama never gave the green light for this deal because it would free Putin up to make money and manufacture weapons.

Trump had openly made promises that sanctions would be lifted as soon as he took office, this is something done in full view, no secret. Congress stepped in and kept him from releasing some sanctions, and the first month in office with Tillerson as secretary of state, legislation was passed that dropped the requirement that US corporations disclosed money given to foreign countries.

Ignorance like yours and millions of others that get their views from FOX and RW media is what's wrong with this country, you are infected with epic ignorance and misinformation.

And by the way, it is not the government buying this oil, it is oil companies, and if Biden were to sanction these purchases you would be wailing and crying about how he was destroying the country with such overreaches.

You can't have it both ways, against buying Russian oil and flipping out and blaming Biden for high gas prices if we stop.

The difference is that Trump's policies allowed us to be a net exporter of energy while the Democrats made us a net importer of energy. Biden could have taken these Trump policies (energy, border, taxes, etc) and claimed them as his own and been a moderate but instead, he capitulated to the radical leftists in the Democratic party, caving to their absurd policies and whims. You forgot to factor in that in 2020 consumption declined by 2.2 million barrels a day and production was down by 1.5mbd which is the only reason there was a -.65mbd 'surplus' of oil. It was the shutdown of the economy that produced the surplus and nothing more. If you are going to argu that it was Trumps policy that produced the pandemic then you could give Trump credit for the surplus. Is that your argument? And for the record net imports started declining in 2005 and continued under Bush, then Obama, and finally Trump.

And you may be a proud American but you aren't a very smart America. It took no more than 5 seconds to produce the search that provided the information as to WHY there was a surplus. And if you aren't a Republican why are you repeating Republican talking points? Talking points that were developed for the mindless masses that make up the Republican base and nothing more...
