I have had 2 cats. The first cat...I agreed to take care of her for a few days for a friend and then she never would pick her up. I got attached top the cat more than I did to the woman who tricked me. I kept her for 5 years then I had to have her put to sleep due to illness. I missed that cat so I got another on at a shelter and he became my BFF. I had to have him put to sleep this past Monday and I miss him. I am not going to get another pet because it is too sad and painful to have to part with them.

I understand the sadness and pain of losing a beloved pet. But, when you rescue a pet from the shelter or elsewhere, you have given that animal a quality of life that they wouldn’t have had otherwise. Please don’t deprive another worthy BFF of that experience.

I am sorry for your loss. Cats and dogs ARE family, when it's time for them to go it's a hard time, but they trust us to do what's right for them.

Give yourself time to grieve. As bad as the pain of loss is, the companionship is worth it. I am not going to say how many cats I have now. I had to take in a feral colony. They are all slowly being socialized, the younger are easier. I lost one because I couldn't catch her and get her to the vet. She was sick, I don't know if she would have made with treatment or not, but a sad day.

I’ve arranged bus transportation (I no longer drive) for next Monday the 20th in the afternoon to go to the “Dumb Friend’s League to adopt a cat. Brenda my niece ask what I was going to name it and I said I kinda’ like the name Buster. She said but what if it’s a female. I said male or female they are all spayed or neutered so it won’t know the difference anyway. Besides now a days gender is not important and being concerned about gender is considered the same as racist.

Oh…the “Dumb Friends League” is for pets…dogs---cats—etc. Not Democrats.

If the Dumb Friends League included Democrats a person could end up with something like a Nancy Pelosi, a Brendon ……..a Joe Biden or a Harris!

Oh Veterans get a 50% discount which is good.

My sister lost one of her cats to a sudden illness, (she had a bowel blockage,) and had to be put to sleep. The vet asked if he could do a necropsy because none of the tests showed what caused the illness, that's how they found out it was a blockage. She went to the local shelter and there had been 3 cats that came in together and 2 of them had been adopted. She said the solid black cat looked at her and stuck her paw out of the cage and that was all it took, she went home with them-sister and husband. I often end up changing my cats' names once I get to know their personality. I named my beautiful tortoise-shell kitten Lila because I thought it was a beautiful name. Now I call her Peepers...she is always peeping at me around the corner/behind the door, or crying in her peeping voice-so Peepers. I am so glad for both you and your future companion.

Thank you.
I grew up on a farm so I like animals.
I seem to get along with animals better'n I do people.
I have yet to experience a dog or a cat lying to me or borrowing money and not paying it back.

I agree with you, thats why we have a number of dogs and a couple of pet goats. We do select our human friends carefully, and ALL of them are animal lovers, or they are not our friends.

The name "Dumb Friends League" needs to be changed to something else that is more fitting for pet recovery and safety organization. Other wise people may confuse "Dumb friends League" with Congress

If the term DUMB was used because animals cannot speak a human language (with the exception of parrots, some of which can actually carry on a conversation with people) then we can live with that concept but dogs have a language that can be understood by smart humans, even though the language is one of body language not words. However considering how many people can not even put together a cogent sentence, many animals are WAY ahead of humans.

My grandson told me when he grew up he was going to invent a device that let people understand what their pets were thinking. I told him that was a great idea.
