See, I actually stayed away from right or left with that story because I don't have a clue what the guys politics were. It was more a commentary on changing parenting values, when I grew up no kid would have ever hassled an adult.

That being the farming community it was, our friends were involved with far more conservative farmers and ranchers than liberals, so I'd be surprised if this was a case of liberal upbringing....not knowing I chose not to speculate as you have, it didn't matter.

My daughter when she was in kindergarten or first grade age went to a school for gifted kids in a liberal area that had a different learn at your own pace model. It was a liberal thing for sure...and say what you will about libs, they tend to be very health food conscious and feed their kids a junk free diet. My daughter grew up with no sodas, and never did develop a taste for them, she would drink water rather than a soda...my point here is show me a hundred liberal raised kids and a hundred conservatives, and there will be more fatties in the conservative bunch, whatever else liberals are they tend to be in very good shape and eat less junk.

I am 66, I was raised to open doors for a lady, to take my hat off when I enter a home or room, to chew with my frigging mouth shut...where did that parental guidance go? I have seen more bratty belligerent kids lipping off to adults in the last 15 or 20 years than you ever would have seen with me or the kids I raised. I know I was raised not to make any comments about someone in hearing range, now we get screaming and yelling at people and calling them names. I have seen 10 year old kids openly making fun of a fat lady right in front of their parents, that would have not been tolerated when I was a kid...nor would it be tolerated by any decent parent.

I'm thinking this somehow ties in with the freedoms loving crowd, they being raised by tyrannical parents went the other way and spawned a couple of generations of spoiled rotten brats that lip off to adults, chew with their mouths open smacking up a storm that can be heard from 20 feet away.

These little things are indicators that there was a very poorly executed parental guidance going on...the beneficiaries of this freedom now seem to believe that freedom involves not giving a damn about anyone else's welfare or feelings, as freedom seems to involve yelling and racial slurs to people they don't believe should be here because they aren't white or something like that.

The divide in this country comes down to the difference between considerate nice people and uncaring butt wipes that were not raised with any meaningful guidance about how to treat other people.
