We've been paying them for 20 years, so why stop now? Go back and look; numerous US contractors got caught funneling money to the taliban. Know what their punishment was? A 1 month suspension, then back to business as usual. How many 100's of millions did we spend trying to bribe Afghan warlords and poppy farmers, the bulk of which financed the taliban?
It started with bush and cheney and never stopped.
