CD, Kevy is a waste of time. He has never owned a plant, has never had to deal with over educated, under knowledgeable workers, with no work ethic at all.
Paying more money does not make any difference in motivation over the long term.
In our plants, we had profit sharing, performance bonuses, childcare subsidies for single parents, flexible scheduling for students & single parents. We paid full tuition for students.
Our average pay w/o OT, profit sharing, bonuses, was just over $59,000, top pay over $125,000.
Our plants were training facilities for OSHA personnel because we had more varied processes & equipment then any other single company & were willing to work w/OSHA.
UAW tried to organize our plants w/o doing their homework. The union organizers were belligerent from the beginning so I had nothing to do with them after our first meeting.
I advised them that threatening any of our employees, destroying any company property was not in their best interests.
I drew up our total pay plan, deducted all the fringe benefits we were providing, compared it to what UAW was promising & did not spend anymore time on it.
I did nothing to keep them from having a vote. I did not say anything to any employees, would not say anything against the union.
I had to work with UAW in the automotive plants.
100% of our employees in all the plants signed the petition for a vote. I still said nothing.
The UAW organizers were giddy.
The vote came, 100% of the employees voted against the union.
I have spent over half my career figuring out how to bring manufacturing back here, have been very successful at it, just to have to take it back out of the country.
I'll be gone until after the New Year.
Take care.
