I appreciate your position, and the effort you put into your observations, but how can this be "private" forum?

I have learned to remain objective in my lifetime. I am not lead nor irritated easily. Therefor, I take all posters for what they are worth. Some worth consideration, some not. Those I find to be not worth it, I disregard. What they say means nothing.

Why are you sounding as though you take this poster's comments personally? None of was required to pass a test to be here, and in fact locations can be hidden as well as other personal information. You chose to be here as did the rest of us.

Again, how do you see this as a private forum when anyone with internet capability and the desire to join in, can?
I appreciate your position, and the effort you put... (show quote)

Seriously, mwdegutis, why is this in any way troubling? Sorry, I really do not get what has you upset. What harm? I am sincerely perplexed at your objection to a possible research endeavor by a retired person.

I see Glaucon's "employees" and other village idiots are out in full force. But where is the "star" of this "rant?" I have to give credit where credit is due. Your research has been quite successful...so far.

This forum is private property, meaning that the admin is the owner and can do with it as he/she sees fit. That does not mean that this forum exists outside of public domain.

Example: a business open to the public is still private property. You only have permission to be there during hours of operation or you are trespassing.

Don't you care that what he's doing is unethical and illegal?

See my post above yours. You are supporting Glaucon's unethical and based on your posts I can now only say ALLEGED illegal behavior? I have lost all hope in the common sense of the American public.

No. And even if it is what you say, why care? You seem really out of sorts about it, so I am asking you, specifically, why this got under your skin? How does it affect you and opp in particular? Please try to be specific.

The WEBSITE is private PROPERTY. The FORUM, which is the vehicle occupying the website...is NOT.

If the forum was private every word posted would be subject to copyright law.

C'mon. Do you actually think a forum, on which anyone can join without signing a hard copy disclaimer, could be "private"?

If this was private, the owners could toss anyone off for their use of filthy expletives. They are still here aren't they?

Not supporting it. I just don't care. This is a public forum and information is being collected on us all the time.

The only ethics issue that I have discerned pertaining to the alleged activity, is the obfuscation of personally identifiable information from the data (which could result in legal issues if such was not the case). He has said that he is compliant with ethics issues as described by the APA although there is no need for him to be.

So either, he is not a member of the APA and is not beholden to their rules, or he's not conducting research.

There is, also, an exception to the APA ethics code you posted:
Quote:
8.05 Dispensing with Informed Consent for Research
Psychologists may dispense with informed consent only (1) where research would not reasonably be assumed to create distress or harm and involves (a) the study of normal educational practices, curricula, or classroom management methods conducted in educational settings; (b) only anonymous questionnaires, naturalistic observations or archival research for which disclosure of responses would not place participants at risk of criminal or civil liability or damage their financial standing, employability or reputation, and confidentiality is protected; or (c) the study of factors related to job or organization effectiveness conducted in organizational settings for which there is no risk to participants' employability, and confidentiality is protected or (2) where otherwise permitted by law or federal or institutional regulations.

He/she says he/she is retired and there no longer held to the same professional standards he once observed.

Anything posted on the internet is public domain and cannot be assumed private property.

But the question remains "why" to "what end"

Is he/she doing similiar studies on other open forums.

If I were suspicious of our ever more ubtrusive as well subvusive government I would render a guess they are working on finding ways of subtly limiting our 1st amendment rights.

Who is the administrator and why have some people said their posts have been sensored ?
