It is the day to thank all those who gave their lives so that we could be free and safe because they gave their all for God and country. It is also the day to hang our heads in shame for not remembering their sacrifices year round and give of ourselves to make America more like the country they fought for. May we become worthy of their sacrifice and fight for the country they wanted America to remain.

Yes, Ma’am and AMEN!!
May we all be worthy of their sacrifices always..

While our country ones and look at all those things we, as individuals believe, but remember we have these rights because of those who gave their life.

I cannot say happy memorial day because in actuality there’s nothing to really be happy about and the loss of life, serving, to defend this great nation. What I can say is you are all most respected and honored and saying thank you simply does not seem enough. But I thank you one and all anyway... May you have found peace in your passing and may your families be forever grateful.

Very thoughtful post Lindajoy, My dad's brother my uncle died in WW2, his son died in Vietnam the last of my Uncle's family his grand son died in Afghanistan. Memorial day has always been a solum day at our house, the BBQs and fun never came to us. Memorial day for my family was spent in the grave yard placing flags on grave stones so I agree, happy is not the sentiment I'd use either. A thank you for your service really isn't enough but the best I can muster for today. For the service members and I'd include police and Capitol Police, Thank you for your service.

God Bless you, Michael and your entire family past and present..you represent this day most assuredly in the loss(es) experienced..

Take pride in them as we all honor them for the ultimate given...They are our hero’s even knowing that is not what they did it for but rather country..

Humbled I am...✨💫🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Gee, Mikey, nice you are having a good weekend.. we are as well, the temp may reach 60 degrees today and 90s by next weekend.. we had 3 nights in the 30s, just missed a frost.. LOL..

Juneteenth??? April 15th, now that is just impossible.. we all resent those taxes.. if only they would only spend on what I like. That I could handle but darn.. tax relief to those who pay no taxes and spending for protection to oil wells, robots to fight our wars for us.. If we gotta die, do it for honor and country.. and especially family..

Hope you have a good BBQ.. never a bad day when we can do that.. My grandson even does it in the snow.. and he is a sprout only in his 20s..

Happy days are just ahead and the recovery will be better then some worry about.. look for the good and you shall find it... someone said.. it is true..

Well said Linda especially about being Happy on this special day. Only Happiness is that those that gave their All are pain free and with the Lord. Like another said it is a day of remembrance. Let us not Forget.

When I was in elementary school we memorized this poem. I am old enough to have had teachers who were WWI soldiers. I always have felt bad when I remember or say this poem.
In Flanders Fields
BY JOHN MCCRAE

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lindajoy, good to read your post again. You always give deep insight and hit the nail on the head. I agree it's not a day to be happy. A weekend to be with family and friends to enjoy the freedom that our fallen have given us. It's a day for me of prayer and reflection of those that gave the most. Having survived two wars and losing troops, every day for me is memorial day. For me the last scene from Saving Private Ryan, when he asks his wife if he has lived a good life sums it all up. If we are not living to honor our Country as they did, then their lives were in vain.

Thank You FallenOak... Talk about seeing it as I read it simply magnetic pulling the heart and tears down to Flanders fields...

I will be keeping this please.
Feeling proud and once again “humbled” in all its truth...
