Tip O'Neil did shutdown the government 12 times...for a total of 13 days!

It's all about me. Under preforming employees get raises while vets are turned away. It's both parties fault but it got exposed under Obama so I don't blame him fully for the negate I do blame for doing little to rectify the problem. The VA has been a mess for a long time.

I did find where several bills were turned down, both parties attached stuff that had nothing to do with the VA to the others bill, just plain BS.

Bush knew about it and pointed it out to obozo at the change of command so when he claimed to find out about it that was just another lie to him. when I retired in 1982 I had heard that you couldn't get decent service from the VA so I went to Tricare and never did check them out for myself, however I did pay the $240 per year for Tricare prime that's for the family

I don't ever remember anyone saying they were 100% satisfied with the VA. Two uncles both retired and both had the Tricare but I'm not sure they were all that happy with.

Now for the Bush part, yep he knew so why didn't he just wave his magic wand like Obama does?

I know, I know, that's not the way government is suppose to work.

Correction are you really serious Unemployment at 7.8% and by the end of February was at 11.2 %. Correction give me a break we were in the worst recession since the Great Depression. Thank god Bush was done.

Bmac32,
You mentioned Tip O'Neal, right, how he never shut the government down, right?

There was a leader who wanted to buy a bar across from the house where Congress meets. He wanted to buy it but could not afford to, so he put a bill in which allowed him to retire and draw all his retirement fund out (in full) and collect a monthly retirement check too.

Because he was such a great Democrat, the Democratic controlled house passed it. What happened was this, he got his bar to listen in on Republicans, for information. Snooping, Spying, whatever you want to call it. You know every booth and seat is bugged!

Not quite done yet, and this bill allowed every retiring civil service employee to do the same. It destroyed the old federal retirement system making it bankrupt.

Can you tell me this great Democrats name?

This iconic leader from the State of Washington, who destroyed the federal retirement system? Want to guess?

Here I'll give you a multiple guess, was it scoop Jackson, or who?

Take a quests, won't hurt, the money the Democrats did not steel out of this huge money fund, he took.

Why did the Democrats when they held control take the money out of the social security fund, to balance their budget, can you tell me the year? Was it legal for them to steal money others had earned and put into this retirement pot?

Have never been treated at a VA hospital but I have a load of friends that have and I'd guess it depends on what you go there for. Thankfully I've stopped going to hospitals since I left work, four times in two years.

Good evening to all! I have been attending a VA clinic here in Appleton, WI for 10-15 years or so. I have had about four doctors over that period of time. All were great. My current doctor has 1,400 vets personally and the last time I was in for a checkup (every 6 months), he mentioned that if he went private, he would have about 15,000 patients! The clinic has 17,000 vets and another new one now about 30 miles away! If I had a problem that couldn't be taken care of at the clinic, they sent me to a local specialist. I have nothing but great things to say about this VA!
By the way, President Bush built a $50 Million dollar rehab hospital in Texas during his watch and many new clinics.
And don't forget, the private sector has deaths of waiting patients also and some areas of the nation, there are waits of many months to see a doctor. It's not just the military!
How many die waiting for an organ?
