The petition to get a recall of California Gov. Gavin Newsom onto the ballot has reached the needed 1.4 million signatures, and organizers are pushing to get at least 300,000 extra before the March 17th deadline, to overcome any objections to signatures. But that might not be nearly enough.
Amazingly, once Newsom's own job was on the line, California election officials have suddenly become intensely concerned about signature matching to prevent ballot fraud. KCRA-TV surveyed 45 county registrars’ offices and they say that out of 1,020,165 signature submitted, only 560,365 are considered close enough matches to be valid. That’s a signature match rejection rate of about 45%.
The California signature match rejection rate in the 2020 Presidential election: 0.6%.
Reports are that Newsom’s strategy to avoid a recall is to impose such strict signature matching that hardly any signatures will be considered valid. Or as Democrats would call anything even a fraction as rigorous: “VOTER SUPPRESSION!” Former President Trump tweeted that this is the same way Democrats kept Kanye West off the ballot in his home state.
So attention, Californians: there are 39.5 million of you, and surely no more than a couple of million at most are doing better under Newsom than they would under just about anybody else. The other 37 million or so of you have until March 17th to sign the petition at
https://rescuecalifornia.org/ And you might want to trace your signature from your drivers’ license.

Even if they get 10 million signatures, they can still prevent it from getting on the ballot by slow walking the petition and just barely missing the deadline to file it. That has happened in other states for other measures that those in power didn't support.
