The people who accept Trump's corruption believe they will benefit from it, and that it is worth roasting in Hell.

I read that Trump has about 400 million dollars of debt which is coming due during the next few years. Also, there are a lot of people who want to prosecute him for a variety of things (for example, in New York). As soon as Trump is no longer president, he'll lose whatever presidential legal immunity he's got, and will suddenly be more subject to prosecution than he has been during the past four years. So, I think Trump is desperate. Why wouldn't he try anything, even a military coup, if that's what it takes to keep himself out of prison? What's he got to lose by trying?
This military coup possibility has been bothering me for more than a month. I believe Trump's been replacing several of the highest-ranking Defense Department officials, with loyalists, during the past few weeks. He's also been trying to stir up support from the naturally violent gun-toters such as "The Proud Boys" ("stand by"). Trump's a populist who can get away with pretty much anything among his own crowd. To someone who's not a Trump supporter, his rallies look ridiculous, but his supporters just eat it up. It looks like he's gradually trained them. Remember his saying that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in New York City and not lose any vote among his supporters. See how he sets up anyone who opposes him, for death threats.
The silver lining in all that dark cloud that I see is that this looks like one of the few times when Mitch McConnell's not lining up on Trump's side. There's also the U.S. Supreme Court that seems to have resisted the call to do Trump's bidding.
What I'd like to have seen is that after Trump & Co. filed a dozen lawsuits that all failed (because they were frivolous), there'd be some sort of injunction against Trump & Co. continuing to file lawsuits. There should be an injunction, because Trump & Co.'s lawsuits and death threats and coup plots and destructive final days of his presidency are all very wearing on about a hundred million people, or more, whose families' well-being, and sometimes even their very lives, depend on the outcome -- over, and over, and over again, every time Trump tries to subvert the election or set up a coup or fire up a mob of gunslingers. We've got a lot better chance of surviving and having productive, happy lives if we don't have to go through another four years of Trump ignoring a pandemic or misleading us about one. The pandemic we've got now won't be the last, I think -- if this one even ends within another four years.
The Trump Administration and Trump (quote) campaign (unquote) are wasting America's energy. The people who aren't being worn out are the ones who don't understand enough to be concerned.
