As a long time gun owner and a NRA life member, I have no problem with background checks which I think in most places are mandatory, at least here in Virginia they are. Under Gov. George Allen (R) we had 3 strikes and you're in jail with no parole and violent crime went way down, especially gun crime. Gov., now Sen., Mark Warner (D) did away with it and crime spiked.
As far assault weapons go, I don't consider any of my AR-15s to be assault weapons as they are semi-auto and not what you used while serving our country which I personally thank you for. My AR-15s are fun to shoot.
With the higher capacity magazines reloading is reduced which increases shooting time. For hunting I use a 5 round magazine but for range shooting I prefer a 20 round.
As for bump stocks, I agree they are useless and probably dangerous but you can achieve the same effect using a belt loop so to me it is sort of a moot point I'd be glad to throw in for the anti-gunners to chew on.
I can see where you are coming from and agree with some of your points and and AR-15 can in the wrong hands be a devastating weapon but the statics show they are rarely used. Hand guns kill way more people, in fact, hammers and the such kill way more people than ARs do every year.
My 12ga. Mossberg loves #1 buckshot. The 3" shell that I shoot have 24 individual 1/4" balls in each round. That's more rounds down range in one trigger pull than I can send with a 20 magazine in my AR-15.
