Good for you! I love a good game of cards, even when 4 decks are in she shoe, you can deduce what cards have been played and what remains giving you a better than 50/50 on winning.

Best odds for winning are on the craps table, if you know how to play.

I have some background in the casino business, ran a security shift. I took cheating seminars (not to cheat, but to know cheating when I saw it) during which I had to learn how to deal and play the games, etc.

I was actually taught to play, one-on-one, in Vegas by a fellow NYer who at the time was assistant floor manager at the Desert Inn. He taught me how serious pros play, much different than how tourists play. This was back in 1986, and while I am not big on gambling, I've done pretty well on the occasions I have played since.

Other than that, I'll dapple here and there in dollar progressive video poker.

The game of craps is pure luck. Poker is where actual skill comes into play.

The difference is that playing craps, you are not restricted to betting options that have been dealt to you, and most bets (excluding the line) return multiple times your bet.

If you stick to certain personal rules, you can walk away from a dice table with a lot more money in a lot less time with significantly less bet.

That's why casinos feature more games that make them more money than they do games they make less profit on.

Slots bring in the most money, so there are exponentially more machines than tables, and blackjack (21) makes the casino the most money table wise, so there are exponentially more blackjack tables than any other kind. Notice, though, that there are only a fraction as many craps tables.

Poker is a different animal altogether from the house point of view, because they make their money on a rake percentage no matter who wins the pot.

The problem with roulette is that the best you can do is make a short term profit. Hit and run. In the long run, you will lose. Always.

That is true of all table games. That is why when you win big, most casinos will comp your room the next time you go back - they want you to play as much/long as possible because they know they will eventually get their money back and then some.

You are right about roulette.. it offers the worst odds of all table games solely due to those two green numbers (0 and 00). Those two numbers alone shift the advantage to the house no matter what your bet is.

Seth is right about Craps offering the best odds of all table games. It is mostly luck but not purely luck (all table games require at least a bit of luck in order to win). It's obvious that Seth knows what he is talking about. You can win a lot of money at Craps in a short amount of time without risking your whole bankroll. Craps does indeed offer the best odds of all table games.

Blackjack is another game that one can win at if one knows how to play it properly (99% who play don't) and how to bet properly (99% who play don't). The Blackjack table is even more beatable if one is adept at the art of card counting (something Sam referred to earlier) but casinos frown on this practice. It is not illegal, but once a casino is convinced you are counting, you will be asked to leave and, most likely, never to return.

Seth is also right about poker. The house cares not who wins or loses as they make a "rake percentage" on every single hand played no matter who wins or loses, much like a (horse) race track makes money on every single race, no matter the winner.

I lived in Las Vegas for seven years. One thing I learned, and it was a painful lesson, is to not gamble. I was also a dealer, so I saw loser after loser after loser walk away broke.

LOL! Can't argue with that, but I will tell you a funny but true story.

A women once brought her 21st birthday daughter into the casino where I worked, the young lady's first casino visit, and she decided to play roulette.

She first came to Security's attention because she was rather well contoured, wearing tight pants and vending forward over the table -- one of my floor officers happened to be strolling by and beheld this, and said into his radio, "Code 10, Roulette 2" which meant "all male officers, find a reason to walk past Roulette 2."

That said, the young lady placed a five dollar chip on 17, and it hit. She said "let it ride." It actually hit again. When she said "let it ride" again, the pit boss had to lift her betting limit because this was now in the neighborhood of a $5k bet. He figured that it was impossible for the same number to come up a third time, so he took the bet.

17!

This was totally unbelievable, so when she asked to "let it ride" again, it was a cinch that the casino would get our money back.... 17! 🤪

4 times in a row!

After that last hit, the young lady left with a very big check from the casino, talk about the ultimate birthday present.

Lol. I'll bet (no pun intended). I was probably one of them. It cost me a lot of money to acquire my education in gambling. I've hit several nice licks over the years but they (almost) always get you in the end.

Depending upon how much a card counter was betting and how many decks were in play, our pit bosses would occasionally get rid of them by quietly instructing the dealer to reshuffle every hand.

Howsomever, by then the surveillance departments in every casino in town would have their photos and general descriptions. We shared, and we supervisors also had a common radio channel for contacting our counterparts in other casinos.

You are to be commended, because some of the worst gamblers are dealers as well.

I always thought the worst were the idiots who gambled and lost scared money while drinking too much, then started verbally abusing the dealer -- we usually had them away from the table and out the door -- or back to their room -- very quickly.
