I'm a member of the Sheet Metal Union. They never polled the membership before they decided to endorse every democrat on the ballot. I looked at the list of who they were endorsing and decided it would make a handy list for who to vote for, I'm voting against all of them. I'm willing to compromise on a candidate if we agree on most of the issues. However, there are a few issues I will not compromise on that are complete deal breakers, one of which is on support of the second amendment.
How do you think they determine their endorsements? They interview and look at voting records on issues pertaining to labor and decide based on that. Pensions, health care, bargaining rights, due process for employers, and workplace safety for starters. If you were a decent union member rather than stabbing your brothers and sisters in the back by supporting candidates working against you you would contact politicians pushing anti working family legislation and raise hell. The second amendment is inshrined in our bill of rights and can only be removed by a constitutional amendment it is under no threat whatsoever.
