The terribly insecure trump is terrified that he is going to lose, so he is planning to take his sorry ass to the SC, where he already has a 5-3 majority.
So is he afraid that some conservative justice will abandon him?
It appears so, and trump must be scared spit less that chief justice John Roberts may vote against him.

For the same reason that FDR chose to stack the Supreme Court. What one has taught another learns.

Why did Lame Duck Pres Obama look to have his choice for the Supreme Court passed in 2016 & not wait & allow the next Pres to choose?!? Especially when it was a forgone conclusion it was going to be Hillary Clinton?!? Perhaps he wanted to have his choice be part of his Legacy... Less likely, because he feared Donald Trump was going to win... Either way, it was within his Constitutional Power to make his Nomination to the Senate... And it was within the Senate's Constitutional Power to choose to not confirm the Nominee...
This time around, a One-Term Pres Trump has the Constitutional Power to make his Nomination to the Senate... And it will be the Senate's Constitutional Power to choose to either confirm or not confirm the Nominee...
It's all in the US Constitution and It's Amendments...

Because there is now a vacant seat at the SCOTUS bench and the president is the only one who can appoint someone to fill it.
In case you didn't know this, the Supreme Court of the United States does not belong to the democrat party, it is the People's court.

The Dem's are just mad at themselves because of all the short-sighted decisions they made in the past, they have NO path to stop the seating of Trump's nominee!
RBG could have stepped down during Obama's Presidency, but she didn't!
Democrats in 2013 voted to get rid of rule that required 60 votes to end a filibuster on executive branch nominations and federal judicial appointments, saying that the GOP was slowing the process of confirming Obama’s judicial nominees. Republicans upped the ante in 2017 when they voted to extend that rule by ending the 60-vote rule on filibusters on Supreme Court nominees. That happened during Justice Neil Gorsuch’s nomination process.
Because the 60-vote rule was eliminated, cloture, which is a call to end debate, can be invoked with only a majority of those senators present. In other words, if all 100 senators are present, it would take 51 votes for the debate to be ended and a vote on the nominee to be moved along.

Trump is "terribly insecure & is terrified that he is going to lose"? Where in the HECK did you get that idea?? President Trump is about the MOST CONFIDENT President we have ever had!!! If he appears "scared spit-less" to you, then you better have your eyesight & mind checked, as you are truly not seeing or thinking right!
Trump has a Constitutional requirement to NOMINATE a replacement of the vacant SC seat!!! That is one of the MOST important requirements of a President!!
Better try think up some other excuse, cause that one just does NOT fly!!!
