I agree with your Southern Pride observation.
Every region of this country has some identifying trait that it identifies with. I'm a Connecticut native ( New England stands for traditional values), transplanted to Florida in '85. Florida is most famous for sunshine, but has so many cultures it is hard to really stick a label on her. Texas; Everything is BIG, and cowboys. California; I'll be nice and go with surfing, movies. The plains, Big Sky Country...you get my point. The American South has always shown great spirit and pride.
Erasing the Stars and Bars is a pathetic attempt at censoring one more bit of America.
