The media is tired of Covid 19. They are hyping the story and the people are bored and restless.

Not hard to make sequestered people who are tired of staying Inside go around burning and looting.

It's like the oj verdict.

Why miss a chance at violence. We've seen everything on Netflix.

I would understand people quietly demonstrating. A peaceful march
down streets would constitute a protest. Even blocking streets for a time. But using it as an excuse to burn buildings, destroy police cars, (which are paid for by public taxes, including their own), and
riot, for that there is no excuse. Looting stores for a new TV or some expensive tennis shoes, where is the justice in that?
But I still think kneeling on any man's neck is beyond stupid!
Once he was down, just put the man in handcuffs. I understand the outrage against causing a person to die. And the three other
cops who stood by and did nothing deserve, at the very least,
firing, plus loss of any retirement. Maybe if all the rest of us protest such treatment, we could begin to cause change.

Some people dig their heels in deeper when confronted or challenged. We see it all the time on OPP. We see it with people in authority. There are some politicians and cops who both hate to be told what to do by the public and when the situation arises they only become more firm in their resolve to not act in other's best interest.

Group-think and tribalism take hold of these individuals' thinking; a sort of "I'll show you who is in charge" attitude takes over. We must find a way to get rid of these obvious miscreants in public service. How many complaints does it take to signal a red flag? Fortunately, the incompetent represent a very small segment. Nonetheless, there are out there and embedded in some of our most important institutions.

We get the kind of government we deserve because we vote for these people and put them in positions of authority. They, in turn, are the ones responsible for creating a hiring system that does not adequately perform to protect everyone from bad actors getting access to our institutions who like to wield power beyond their authority.

I recall an even about a decade ago, when one young man was not
allowed into the police academy because "His IQ was too high!"
Perhaps a high-IQ police officer would have taken his knee off a man who was crying out "I can't breathe!"
I understand the anger. I don't understand burning and looting.

Nearly every employer will require a Bachelors's degree for an entry-level job that most high-school graduates could perform competently. On the other hand, one can become a police officer with just a high school diploma. Most at least have an Associate's degree from a two-year college. German police go through a three-year academy and they don't have to deal with the same type of civil rights that American police deal with.

I can see the philosophy behind the I.Q for a Truck Driver. In fact average I.Q. is better for that occupation of else boredom and in-attention to the road can set in leading to disastrous consequences. Isn't the same true for law enforcement/public safety officers? I don't know. It used to be that to join the FBI one had to have a degree in accounting or law. How's that worked for them lately?

The simple fact is that we should try to always hire the most qualified based on merit and not use some artificial metric such as gender, race, age, religion, etc. to satisfy the social experiments of the left.

When I was looking for work, as a single parent rating two kids, I
was often told I "was overqualified." I told them I was not overqualified to feed my kids! I'm retired now, but I was a technical illustrator, graphic artist, oil, gas and nuclear power drafter, electronics drafter, as well as geophysical and oceanographic illustrator. At the time, I had been married to a man who was a Chief Radioman in nuclear submarines, and both of us thought nuclear power was a good thing. I don't feel that way
now. I live in Nevada and have been part of the effort to keep Yucca Mountain from being imposed on Nevada. We've already paid too heavy a price for nuclear power. At least, Civilian. I sort of concede it still makes a bit of sense for carriers, submarines and
cruisers. But civilian nuclear power has been and continues to be
a huge waste of money, as well as an ongoing danger. Note the hazards still being emitted at Fukushima Japan. We were trying to get the 2020 Olympics taken away from Tokyo, when the virus did it for us. But I'd rather have a cop with a high IQ, any day! I wish there were higher IQs on the people operating that benighted place, and its so far useless, remediation.
