America is in a rough spot right now. We are on the brink of crumbling our brilliant economy for a virus that kills about the same amount of people as the flu does each year.

President Trump shuttered the economy based on the prediction that 80% of the country would become infected and more than 2 million Americans would die if we didn’t.

They told us that with our best efforts, we might get that number down to the hundreds of thousands. In the face of such rampant death, a hit to the economy is a reasonable trade-off they said.

You know the problem with this premise. It was based on faulty estimates. Those infection and death projections weren’t just wrong; they were ridiculous.




As it turns out, no one who can do basic calculus ever believed that millions of lives were at stake. Instead, bad science was pushed because the goal was to destroy the economy from the start. The left would gladly see thousands starve if it would improve their political power.

Worst of all, the key figures pushing this disturbing agenda are the ones we’ve been trusting as a country. Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx were the ones who convinced the President to send everyone home.

What’s more is that they fully admit it. They’re proud of what they have done. They even brag about it in this video.

We can’t keep deferring to communist ‘scientists’ if we’re going to save this country. Watch the video. Understand the threat, and get ready to take this country back. We have to go back to work, even if we have to storm capitol buildings to get there.

Just multiply the number to get the same amounts of flu infections and then take a look at the deaths...

(flu infects are 70 times higher... So just multiply 39,000 by 70... It's a little over 2.7 million.... And don't forget, flu numbers are low because there is a vaccine...No vaccine for this one...)

The country needs to get back to work. I just complained about Gov. Whitmer locking down Michigan. I know how to take care of myself. It was President Trump who closed our borders and prevented this virus from becoming even more of a problem but reading, its significance has been overblown. this has to end. Trump doesn't want to stop activity any more than necessary. It is the left who is crying because they don't want Trump to win...I bet they results of this pandemic will be another feather in Trump's hat of achievements.../..

You should stop right there. Read the above statement. You are using a false equivalency--a logical fallacy. That is, what has happened in a month when the nation was sequestered is equal to what happens in a year with people moving around freely.

You can't make such a comparison and be able to draw a logical conclusion and if you make a decision based on this argument you are making one based on faulty information and likely to be wrong.

As for our economy--look at the damage done by the virus when we have done everything to stop it, to the potential damage done if we had done nothing to stop it. Our healthcare system couldn't have handled the increase in cases which means it would collapse leading to the collapse of the rest of the economy.

Our economy hasn't collapsed, but was shut down, and with the government acting proactively there is support for our social and business structure making restarting our economy easier and more likely to be successful.

Lastly, thank god the projections came in under what was expected and remember that was with everyone staying home. Think what would have happened had we not stayed home but mingled and had business as usual! The people telling you not to trust medicine and science cuz it was wrong are idiots and the only thing they are going to restart are the morgues, casket, and bodybag companies. You can never have too many of those when conservatives are put in charge of a pandemic.

What are you talking about? When Trump "shut down" the borders over 40,000 came in from Europe and probably an equal number came in from Asia. That was worse than doing nothing because it brought the virus in quicker than if we had done nothing.

You are right about one thing--the tens of thousands who have died, and the tens of thousands who will die in the future--are a feather in the cap of Trump's glorious achievements. You conservatives went on endless about 4 deaths in Benghazi and are mute to the thousands who are dead due to Trump's carelessness. Hypocrisy thy name is conservative.

The government wasn't set up to handle a pandemic and what was there, the Trump administration shut down and closed in 2018--talk about myopia due to ignorance--the greatest single characteristic of this administration and those who put it in power.

Most of the unemployed haven't even received their first check. Based on what calculus are you using that "WE NEED To" get back to work now--we have to get the economy rolling now or else?

One conservative poster said we need to use common sense and intelligence. So let's do that, based on what have we determined that people have to get back to work now or the economy will crumble around us? I'll bet that you haven't listened to a single credible economist who said NOW is the time to restart the economy because people HAVE to get back to work NOW! My question is why does anyone need to go back to work so badly that they would place their lives in danger?

Believe it or not, landlords and creditors understand what is going on and so long as you go to them it is to their benefit to work with you. Myself, I gave almost half my tenant's free rent in April and May and reduced rent payments until the virus is checked and the economy is rolling again. Why, because it beats a 50% turnover and complete disruption of what is a very homogeneous community. To me, it is common sense for me to share in the same loss that my tenants are experiencing--especially if doing so helps keep the community together.

Conservatives seem to be panicking in the opposite direction that Liberals are. Your concern is fully the economy my only question is who are the economists who are influencing you and are they telling you the truth? You believe the virus was overplayed but listen to Dr. Oz whom you people seem to place a great deal of trust in said it has a 2 to 3% fatality rate--which if, unrestricted by our movements mean that 1 infected person will infect 1.2 people, etc, etc, etc and faster than the flu and most of the deadly viruses that we are faced with. So in his own way Dr. Oz is confirming that COVID-19 is as deadly as it claims to be--look to Italy and Spain for proof if nothing else.

What this means is that as the outbreak grows it will overwhelm our healthcare system--both in its ability to care for the patience and it's the ability to pay for those who are sick. That is going to attack our economy indirectly because as people get sick various businesses will either shut down or sharply curtail activities as a response to their employees getting sick. So the economy will shut down one way or the other and it won't be able to restart until there is an effective vaccine against this virus as full vaccinations against it is the only way we will be able to move past it.

Now I have a feeling that what is driving you conservatives is that you are terrified that the longer the economy is down the less likely it is that Trump will be reelected. I think that's what's driving you conservatives and with that, I just have to question--since the majority of the Republican party is over 65 and in the group that will succumb to the virus why do you think the reelection of Donald J Trump worth your life? Is your love of political power greater than your love for your own life?

It really makes no sense. If we use our heads and think about what we are doing AND we use testing to tell us what parts of our economy that we can restart we can get this thing going with the least impact on man. But to do this using the presidential 'gut' feeling what we can count on if for a restart of this virus all over again. If that happens then everything we have done up to now is for naught and we will be forced to start ALL over again. If that happens and you are worried about your president being reelected a collapse of our economy will most certainly do that.
