I'd say it was written along with the Bill of Rights to limit the government's power to intrude into our lives.

I believe the purpose of the U.S. Constitution was to form a government that allowed mankind to be free of absolute rulers. It affords Checks and Balances for all citizens. Not always perfect but unusually fair to everyone. I think of the people who tried so very hard to give us a better life than any human had ever lived since the beginning of homosapien. I think of the founders who were wealthy at the time and of the many who died as paupers. Then I think of the “leaders?” of today who enter Washington as paupers and die extremely wealthy. If we would follow the guidelines set for us by those writers of the U.S. Constitution we would all be much happier. Remember that our Southern Border and our Northern Border have many sneaking across because we offer a much better way of life than anywhere else on this planet. I weep for the Founders who gave their fortunes and their lives to leave to us as close to a perfect society as mankind has yet achieved because now we have a Dog and Pony show run by people (both parties) who don't care about honor but only about their own riches and we watch the Constitution die.
