Democrats are against this because they don't want Trump to be right about something. They would rather let people die than have them recover with the help of a drug that Trump supports. Medical professionals claim that the drug does nothing against the virus. But I believe that it fights bacteria that become a problem in compromised lungs that can no longer fight off simple bacteria, thus exacerbating inflammation and fluid build-up. Medical professionals have a one-track mind. They have shown in petri dishes that the drug has no effect on a virus. So what! If it limits that contributory effect of bacteria in weakened lungs, it has value in saving lives.
