Conversely, if it is "easier" to vote, it is easier to cheat the system.

Why not make it as foolproof as possible and require photo ID to vote. What's wrong with that?

Voter id laws are written and implemented by the various states, or not.

The constitution requires that only US citizens could vote. To prove that you are a US citizen, voter's ID must be presented. It is a guideline, a process, a protocol, to properly identify who you are. illegal aliens are not legally allowed to vote. But Illegal aliens usually vote for the socialist democrats. Cause the illegals are aiding and abetting the democrats commit crimes.

States can require id, photo or any other, if they want.

You want a National Voter ID card, tell your congress critter and senator and see how far you will get with that.

Just about as far as making english the national language

The Democrats don't want voter ID or any other assurance of an honest election. Democratic controlled states authorize ballot harvesting so if any election doesn't come out right they can fix enough ballots to suit them and of course non citizens should vote. It worked last time in several states and those states should not be allowed to submit a tally in any Federal election.
