I believe that ROTC officers (at least in the Army) still have to attend a basic course according to what branch they go to: Artillery officers go to the Artillery OBC, etc.

There are certain specialties who are directly commissioned and go through a very minimal form of training called OBC - Officer Basic Course. It's equivalent to kindergarten. Basically teach them the rank structure, how to wear the uniform, and how to stand at attention. That's about it.
