I have a former coworker whose husband was killed; she was in a trauma care center for a month; intensive care two months, and another four months in a regular room at Johns Hopkins with twenty four hour home health care for three months, after an eighteen year old hit them head on while texting. The measure of the survivor's generosity is she asked they not charge the young woman with negligent homicide. The young woman lost driving privileges until she is 25, and must do community service with victims of such incidents (15 hours per week) until she is 25. We will not even talk about the medical bills and settlement amount.

AuntiE, really not laughing nor does anyone normal see texting and driving as funny...It really lends to the hypocrisy of any/all drivers that allow themselves to be distracted while they drive. This can be driving while impaired, changing radio stations, smoking, eating, refereeing kids, applying makeup, etc., texting is a rather new distraction. I have myself got red in the face at people yacking on their cells and nearly T-boning me. I'd be so mad, I'd flick my cigarette out the window at them, understand?

Aunti I did not mean to offend. I know I presented this in a smart alec kind of way. I don't know what any of us can do about it. Trust me, this is as serious a problem as drunk driving. I guess that is why I saw the irony in the picture.
My wife and I drive for a living, so we do take this stuff seriously. We leave our hub every morning; she goes northeast, I go northwest. There is a reason I walk all the way across the building every morning and kiss her, tell her I love her, and to be careful.
We deal with this crap almost daily. We drive mostly 2 lane country roads, and have had too many close calls to count.
If I offended you, I do apologize.
Archie

You DID NOT offend me. I know you meant no harm. You had absolutely no way of knowing this is a "hot button" for me.

I wish we had a way to do what, boy I hate to say this, the Europeans do. Our neighbors told us while in Europe their cells phones were blocked while in museums and other venues. There is a mechanism for emergency use. If I had a "blocking mechanism", I would use it every time I perceived someone texting.

I am so glad you take the time and effort to show your love of Mrs. B each day as you go about your work.       Brian Devil would mock you...you southern, gun owning, Works for a living person.

Such a tragic story, but with a good outcome! About 35 years ago, an In-Law's young daughter was sitting in her front yard in a circle with her young friends, playing dolls.
A seriously drunk driver lost control of her car on the road in front of their house, and plowed over the sidewalk and into the front yard where the young girls were, driving over the top of one- killing her. That was my In-laws daughter.
Eventually, that In-law became a major spokes person for M.A.D.D., Mother's Against Drunk Drivers. That was the only way she was able to find relief for the Grief of what happen to her daughter.
I'm sorry folks, but it's not funny.

I am so sorry you had concerns. My post was not an assailment against you.

"The bomb" is what my nephew-in-law calls my niece. I had not heard it prior to his usage. He had to explain it to me. It is VERY cool that you still call Mrs. B "the bomb"!

Travel safely.
