ormer President Barack Obama on Monday suggested he was responsible for the booming economy under President Donald Trump.
“Eleven years ago today, near the bottom of the worst recession in generations, I signed the Recovery Act, paving the way for more than a decade of economic growth and the longest streak of job creation in American history,” Obama wrote on Twitter, sharing a picture of his $787 billion stimulus spending package.
Obama’s message on Twitter was not just a nostalgic look back on his presidency, as he specified that his spending package was responsible for “more than a decade” of growth, despite his only being president for eight years.
Although Obama’s nearly trillion-dollar stimulus may have helped the economy recover from a major recession, economic growth had slumped to 1.6 percent by the time he left office. President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and regulatory cuts proved to be rocket fuel for the American economy now enjoying record high stock markets gains, wage gains, historic unemployment rates, and an expansion that is now the longest on record.
Obama famously said after he left the White House he would refrain from criticizing Trump, but he retracted that promise after hitting the campaign trail in 2018 to boost Democrats.
“When you hear all this talk about economic miracles right now. Remember who started it,” Obama complained in a speech in Nevada in 2018. “Remember who started it! C’mon!”

If Obama's economy was so great at the end of his term, why didn't Hillary run on it and get elected in 2016?

Trump, who did not expect to be elected, politically inherited a restored economy on the ascendancy. That the so called Trump “economy” is based on irrational greed and a massive socialistic tax cut/ deregulation party benefitting the top 3% while putting the whole cost of the party on the national credit card should not be lost on anybody. Remember how Dubbya ran the economy into the ditch with massive deficit spending on a reckless war with Iraq? His rich buddies like Halliburton and KBR snoffled at the US Treasury trough until the economy dropped off a cliff. Trump is working from the same playbook.

Rocket fuel?
trumps tax cuts have resulted in company stock buy backs, and an economy languishing in the low 2% gdp, after trump promised gdp growth of 4% and higher.
But not to worry, as soon as the summer campaign starts trump will start blaming the Party of Stupid for his sluggish economy.

If Obama was passing off "a restored economy on the ascendancy," why didn't Hillary run on it and kick Trump's ass in 2016? After all, she herself couldn't understand why she wasn't up by 50 points.

thebigp: Good straightening out comments. It won't work however. Dems hang in forever with their
idea that the Obama Adm. was so wonderful...remember to "Fundamentally change"...yeah right.
They surely did...taught the world about how to spy, lie, do the nastiest things ever, though there
were more before...all haters.
Wouldn't it be fantastic in a "perfect world" where people didn't worry about who got the credit
for anything and we all tried to live in a world that was good for all and decency for others throughout
this stinky political world that has seen nothing as detestable as these last few years with a really
rotten foreign President was elected and screwed up more in those 8 years than ever before. Don't
ever think THAT Adm. would tell something that would be truthful. Think of his Attorney General
with the attitude that said and was so proud "if they go low, we kick!" Enough said?
