You demand the "right" for mothers to kill their children, you advocate the "right" for physician assisted suicide yet, like Bloomberg, you want to restrict the right to a Big Gulp, salt shakers, tobacco, and chips for those who may or may not shorten their lives by their consumption. And you made it quite clear your Admiration for Europeans and your disdain for Americans you feel obligated to criticize.

I respect the right for people to have autonomy over their own bodies, be it a woman who chooses to terminate an unwanted pregnancy or a glutton who wishes to live on a diet of bacon burgers, and sausage gravy over Cheetos alamode. However I have no qualms about public policy that discourages self destructive behavior. For instance regulating advertisements encouraging the consumption of booze, tobacco and unhealthy food and taxing these items to cover their cost to society. As far as reducing the number of abortions, accurate and thorough sex education that clearly and concisely explained methods of birth control and easy and affordable access to these methods would do far more to reduce the demand for abortion than attacks on planned parenthood.

Thinking people around the world wonder how a loud mouthed criminal huckster became the 45th President and now researchers may have discovered part of the reason. Consuming a western diet for as little as one week can subtly impair brain function and encourage slim and otherwise healthy young people to overeat, scientists claim.

Researchers found that after seven days on a high fat, high added sugar diet, volunteers in their 20s scored worse on memory tests and found junk food more desirable immediately after they had finished a meal.

The finding suggests that a western diet makes it harder for people to regulate their appetite, and points to disruption in a brain region called the hippocampus as the possible cause.

“After a week on a western-style diet, palatable food such as snacks and chocolate becomes more desirable when you are full,” said Richard Stevenson, a professor of psychology at Macquarie University in Sydney. “This will make it harder to resist, leading you to eat more, which in turn generates more damage to the hippocampus and a vicious cycle of overeating.”

Previous work in animals has shown that junk food impairs the hippocampus, a brain region involved in memory and appetite control. It is unclear why, but one idea is that the hippocampus normally blocks or weakens memories about food when we are full, so looking at a cake does not flood the mind with memories of how nice cake can be. “When the hippocampus functions less efficiently, you do get this flood of memories, and so food is more appealing,” Stevenson said.

To investigate how the western diet affects humans, the scientists recruited 110 lean and healthy students, aged 20 to 23, who generally ate a good diet. Half were randomly assigned to a control group who ate their normal diet for a week. The other half were put on a high energy western-style diet, which featured a generous intake of Belgian waffles and fast food.

“Understanding the impact of a western diet on brain function is a matter of urgency given the current food climate,” she said. “This research has provided data to support detrimental effects on both memory and appetite control after just one week of an energy-dense diet and may suggest a link between poor diet and impairment of the hippocampus, a key memory and appetite-associated brain region. The mechanisms at work remain to be elucidated and will require further research with the application of more sophisticated neuroimaging methods.”

So in a nutshell, many Trump supporters are that way simply because they have eaten themselves stupid.

It's amazing that you should know about such things. It sounds like you're experienced.

America is the largest consumer of illegal (non RX) drugs of any nation in the world and thereby directly responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of brown skin cartel related deaths South of our border and thousands more of our own citizens. All this to escape or feel good for a limited period of time. Yet Progressive compassion discovered legalizing illegal drugs brings in big bucks. There is already a movement to decriminalize all illegal drugs. This is the public policy that discourages self destructive behavior and brings in big bucks you evidently approve. When people like yourself, people emerged deeply into moral relativism where individuals decide good and evil, right and wrong, be certain your society is failing.

Discouraging some one from taking a course of action is not the same as preventinf them from exercising that right...

Example: The horrid warnings on cigarette packs... They are meant as a discouragement, but in no way prevent the individual from exercising their right to smoke...

I doubt if Kevyn would support efforts to discourage abortions... But I may be wrong....

This diatribe about junk food just made me remember that I have a cherry pie in the oven. Do you know why I have an extremely delicious frozen pie that only requires putting it in the oven? The main factor is Capitalism; someone makes money by providing me with goods and services. Unlike the gang that is competing to be the next democratic president, Trump believes in Capitalism

Oh yes he did.

You’re as obtuse as Kevy.

If you respect the right for people to have autonomy over their own bodies then you shouldn’t be supporting public policy that discourages that autonomy.

Maybe it's time you got off the fence Canukus.
