The Virginia state Senate passed a “red flag” gun confiscation bill on Wednesday afternoon – the latest of several gun bills at the helm of the Democratic legislature’s agenda.

After nearly an hour of final debates, state senators passed SB 240 in a vote of 21-19, and will now advance to the House, where it is also expected to pass the Democrat-controlled body.

If passed, authorities would be granted the power to confiscate guns from citizens deemed a danger to themselves or others.

The Virginia state Senate passed a “red flag” gun ... (show quote)

Once in place this will likely give pause to wife beaters who know if they pummel their wife or girlfriend their guns will be taken away. A family can have the guns of a depressed or unbalanced member temporary removed from them until they are better and out of danger. All of this of course must be approved by the court and can be challenged in court by the persons who’s firearms are being held for safekeeping. This will very likely save a number of lives and place no burden on responsible gun owners.

Once in place it will give ex-wives and angry neighbors to chance to really put it to a citizen.

In addition, apparently PETA and similar groups have already gotten ideas on how to target hunters.

a good number of our recent massacres might have been prevented, had such laws been in place and enforced. I'm curious; how many lives are an acceptable number to sacrifice, to avoid any sort of gun controls?

Which ones?

The recent massacres...

Which could have been prevented?

There is plenty of gun control and laws....question should be....how do we get the criminals and insane people to follow them?

I get pissed off at you and want to stick it to you. I go to a judge and claim you threatened me repeatedly. Cops come and take your guns. After considerable time and legal expense, the whole thing is proven fraudulent. Who cares? I am not held liable for lying about you, or for the trouble and expense I have caused you. Those are your red flag laws.
In Florida, you have to be an LEO, court officer or licensed medical professional to request a confiscation and you have to submit your claim under penalty of perjury; unlike MD, CO and VA. Red Flag laws in most states reverse the concept of innocent until proven guilty. They have already been abused by vengeance-seeking people; people who have not been held liable for the malicious mischief, legal expenses and trouble they cause.

I recall several over the past couple years that would have been prevented had existing laws been enforced...

But I can't recall any that "red flag" laws would have prevented...

Still, as a Canadian living in China, the second amendment is of little concern to me.. And I don't stay abreast of things...

And exactly which gun control law will prevent these? Red flag laws? There are already several different laws that address these issues.

Historically you will find that criminals don't obey laws.....but you know that, don't you?

The problem is that red flag laws are dangerous to freedom and quite easy to abuse.

There were plenty of common sense laws in place that might have prevented many shootings ............they weren’t followed.
