Monday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin criticized media pundits for discussing the impeachment articles against President Trump seemingly without any idea of what’s required to impeach a president or the separation-of-powers battle that’s at the heart of this politically motivated impeachment.
“I think part of the problem we have, ladies and gentlemen, is most of the people commenting on impeachment have no idea what they’re talking about. Have not studied the subject in any significant way,” Levin said.
Levin described how during the Clinton impeachment trial in the late 1990s, he studied President Andrew Johnson’s impeachment trial in-depth to understand the process, the Constitution’s requirements for impeachment, and the case against President Johnson and how it informed what was happening to President Bill Clinton.
“People are comparing the Clinton impeachment to the Trump impeachment,” Levin said. Setting the record straight, before Trump’s trial begins in the Senate, Levin defended President Trump from the accusations thrown against him by Democrats and the media and explained how Johnson’s impeachment trial is essential to understanding what’s happening to Trump.
“This is an assault by the Democrats on the Constitution, on the power and independence of the presidency. It is an assault on the separation of powers,” Levin said.
“This is a disgrace.”
It would be fitting for all the Dems in DC to wear a Swastika.

I have a slightly different take on that matter.
Republicans and Trump supporters do not own the Constitution.
The House was set up as the representatives of the people. The House reflects the fact that most people don't support the Trump administration. The House members are, in fact, discharging their Constitutional functions. They are putting the brakes on an administration that seeks to govern as though it has a mandate when it does not have such a mandate.
The Presidency is not an independent government with unlimited independence and powers. It is a third of our government. The powers and independence of the Presidency are checked by the Congress and Supreme Court. Far from being an assault on the separation of powers, this impeachment is an assertion of the power of the House, and Congress in general, to reign in an executive who asserts he has unlimited power and independence. The possibility that the Presidency might not answer to Congress is exactly why the power to impeach was put into the Constitution.
Far from being a disgrace, the government is functioning the way it was designed by the Constitution. The country is divided, therefore the government is divided. Calling the Dems nazis does nothing to alter the fact that they represent the people reminding the administration that it does not have a mandate, nor even popular support.
From the lies about the size of the inauguration crowd to the recent photo of an altered county election map on his desk, this President has fooled himself about his popular support. The impeachment is a check on that illusion.

All demonrats should be required to wear swastikas in the US. All conservatives could wear the American flag, a gun emblem and a patriot symbol to denote liberty and American values. We should know our enemies and all demorats are becoming our enemies.

But Linda, it's all the dems could come up with in the "discovery" inquiries! The dem's ended it so they must have thought there was simply no more evidence? Time to throw this thing where it belongs, in the garbage where the rest of the democrat screw ups have gone!!

You're right, I did. In this particular case the Senate role makes analysis more complicated. I was trying to get to the larger point that Congress has ceded a lot of it's powers to the Executive. That Congress is divided does throw a twist into the situation.
In a political environment as polarized as we are, making the argument that the House is acting within the Constitution to assert it's rights is a thankless task. My post wasn't really about the impeachment, it's processes, or outcome. Just as I think of the Trump administration as an outcome of forces larger than Mr. Trump, I view the House impeachment the same way.
We have been down this road before. An administration that asserts that if the President does it, it's legal.
And an inevitable response of impeachment.
